New Spots Serving Up Lunch at Pittsburgh Public Market

The Pittsburgh Public Market has long been home to some of the best lunches in town, and now, they’ve added a few new spots to their ever-expanding list.

Pittsburgh Po’Boy has just opened its stall in the market, offering a selection of Cajun-style bites, including gumbo, Muffuletta and po’boys, those submarine-style sandwiches found in every deli in Louisiana.

Owner Ben Dougherty went to culinary school in New Orleans, and wanted to bring back a taste of the South to his hometown. While much of the produce and meats are locally-sourced, the sandwich bread is entirely authentic, and shipped up from Louisiana.

Right now, the shop is offering three different po’boys (blackened chicken, grilled shrimp and Adouille sausage), plus traditional Muffuletta sandwiches and gumbo, but Dougherty says that the menu will be expanding.

“Soon, we’ll be offering some non-traditional dishes that highlight Cajun/Creole cooking,” says Doughtery. “Alligator and crawfish po’boy will be on the menu, and we’re working on a crawfish grilled cheese.”

Coming up, they’ll also be debuting a rolling food truck.

Pittsburgh Po’Boy is at the market Wednesdays through Sundays.

And while you’re there, we suggest doubling up and trying another newly-opened PPM lunch locale, Steve’s Deli.

The shop uses a majority of local ingredients, and serves up New American sandwiches like classic Reubens (with house-made corned beef), pork shoulder with feta, pineapple and jalapeno, and a vegan BBQ pulled-mushroom sandwich with kale slaw.

And for sides? They’re offering a trio of salads, including traditional potato, French Bean Salad with asparagus, peas, Edamame and red potatoes, and a fresh salad with arugula, spinach and vinaigrette.

Steve’s Deli is open at the market Wednesdays through Sundays.
