The weather may be cooling down, but Pittsburgh’s food and drink scene is still red hot! In the past few weeks, lots of new spots have opened up around the city.
Below is a list of some of our favorite new additions to Pittsburgh that opened in the fall of 2017. Are we missing something? Let us know in the comments below!
Friendship Perk & Brew
Friendship
Before opening, the sign for Friendship Perk and Brew dangled next to Friendship Avenue for months, tantalizing passerby into wondering when the space would open.
After years of work, the cafe finally opened their doors to the public at the end of September. The space is a combination cafe, coffee shop and beer shop. Guests can enjoy a menu of breakfasts dishes, appetizers, and homemade sandwiches. As the name alludes, the shop also has a robust coffee menu, and a selection of craft beer bottles.

Red, the Steakhouse
Downtown
Cleveland-based steakhouse group, Red, the Steakhouse, opened a new Pittsburgh location in the U.S. Steel Tower downtown this October.
This is the fourth location for the restaurant group, which has four other locations in Ohio and Miami. The high-end steakhouse is known for their dry-aged steaks, fresh seafood, extensive wine list, and decadent sides. Acclaimed by a number of national publications, it’s a great location for celebrating a special occasion, or having a business meal.

Ki Pollo
Lawrenceville
The owners of Ki Ramen have been busy! While their new Butler Street ramen restaurant only opened in August, they have already opened the doors to a sister restaurant project.
Ki Pollo, located only a few doors down from Ki Ramen on Butler Street, is a Korean fried chicken and empanadas restaurant. The owners were so eager to bring this new concept to Pittsburgh, they had to work on Ki Ramen and Ki Pollo simultaneously.
The restaurant dubs itself ‘fast casual,’ and guests can dine in or carry out. The menu consists of friend chicken, tossed in various sauces. The empanadas are made fresh in-house, and include a myriad of flavors from chicken to pumpkin.

Bae Bae’s Kitchen
Downtown
Bae Bae’s Kitchen may be new, but it already has quite a reputation in Pittsburgh’s downtown dining scene. At lunch time during the week, it’s not unlikely to see a line of people waiting on the sidewalk for some of Bae Bae’s Korean-inspired health food.
Everything at Bae Bae’s is made fresh daily. The spot opens at 11:00 a.m. and serves food until they run out. Another ‘fast casual’ spot on the list, dishes are build-your-own. Guests start with a base of rice, noodles, or a salad. They can then add a protein (such as ribeye, Korean fried chicken, pork belly or tofu), as well as sides and extras.

Muddy Cup
Dormont
The Bellevue favorite coffee shop, Muddy Cup, has opened a second location south of the city in Dormont. Similar to their Bellevue location, the Dormont Muddy Cup is a neighborhood coffee shop where guests can expect freshly-brewed coffee, as well as pastries, biscotti and scones.

Bitter Ends Garden & Luncheonette
Bloomfield
Bitter Ends Garden, the popular garden-to-breakfast stall at the Bloomfield Saturday market, has opened a permanent location on Liberty Avenue in Bloomfield. The spot, called Bitter Ends Garden & Luncheonette, is in the space formerly occupied by DJ’s Sandwich Shoppe. Guests can expect the same fresh, vegetable-forward dishes they came to love at the Saturday market, but instead with regular hours and brick walls.
The spot will also be serving pies, doughnuts, breads and other baked goods.
Bitter Ends Garden & Luncheonette (4613 Liberty Avenue)
Abjuration Brewing
McKees Rocks
The Parkway Theater is back, but this time with a bar, a lounge, and a brewery. Abjuration Brewing, Pittsburgh’s opened-source nano brewery with a scientific theme, is officially open to the public in McKees Rocks.
Fitting with their theme, Abjuration Brewing will serve their beers in beakers, and will name their drafts with version numbers (aka, how many times the recipe was changed until it was perfected).
Though they are in the same building, Abjuration is separate from the Parkway Theater. The two spaces will work fluidly together.
For the month of December, Abjuration will be open on Fridays and Saturdays. Follow their Facebook for updates on regular hours.

Bier’s Pub/ War Streets Brewery
North Side
Benjamin’s Western Avenue Burger Bar is now Bier’s Pub. Other than the name change, not much is different with the space or the menu. However, one big addition is the restaurant’s draft list. War Streets Brewery is now housed inside of Bier’s Pub.
War Streets Brewery has been struggling to open on the North Side of Pittsburgh for the past few years. Finally, the brewery found a home at Benjamin’s, and the entire project was renamed Bier’s Pub. Guests can now get War Streets beer on tap at Bier’s Pub, along with the burgers that Benjamin’s was famous for.

Threadbare Cider & Mead
North Side
The folks behind Wigle Whiskey have another North Side venture up their sleeve. Just down the road from their barrelhouse in Spring Garden, the Wigle team has opened Threadbare Cider & Mead. Inspired by the legend of Johnny Appleseed, Threadbare is a family-friendly cider house. Guests can enjoy Threadbare’s unique ciders while munching on charcuterie plates and homemade, sourdough pizza.
The beautiful space also has a robust calendar of upcoming events. Currently, Threadbare is only serving cider and local beers, but homemade mead will soon be available.

Tina’s
Bloomfield

A new old-school bar has opened on Main Street in Bloomfield. Tina’s, as the space is named, is now open in the building formerly occupied by Tea Bags. In addition to tasty cocktails, guests will enjoy the space’s retro music, classic jukebox, and mid-century furniture.

Espresso a Mano South Side
South Side
The popular Lawrenceville coffee shop now has a second location on the South Side of Pittsburgh. Espresso a Mano has taken over the Amazing Cafe’s space on East Carson Street, which closed in May after a conflict between the owners and staff.
As a coffee shop, the main focus of the space is on the coffee. According to NextPittsburgh, guests will be able to purchase juices from Pittsburgh Juice Company, and breakfast sandwiches with Pigeon bagels or Mediterra Bakehouse bread. Kate Romane of Black Radish Kitchen helped Espresso a Mano develop a breakfast and lunch menu for this location.
