If you’re interested in consuming healthy foods, or practicing a more holistic lifestyle, Pittsburgh will soon have a shop and community gathering place specializing in hard-to-find, local, and bulk quantity health foods.

For the past two years, the team behind The Pittsburgh Juice Company has been in the process of transforming the space that housed the former 31st Street Pub into a destination for organic superfoods in Pittsburgh.

“We’re working to convert a rock n’ roll pub into health food heaven,” laughs Naomi Homison, the owner and manager of The Pittsburgh Juice Company and Heirloom Superfood Market.

The Pittsburgh Juice Company – which operates a storefront up the road in Doughboy Square – currently uses the space as their prep kitchen. However, since acquiring the space, they have dreamed of transforming it into a market space where local and evasive health foods could be found under one roof.

Customers at Heirloom Superfood Market will be able to purchase organic produce, bulk ingredients, and local brands, as well as prepared meals.

Heirloom is working with companies like Pure Grub for fresh meal options. Other brands like Fickle Fox Fermented Foods and Frontier Cultures will help bring a unparalleled selection healthy food that span a wide range of diets.

The space will also be a community gathering place where people can further their health journey beyond food. For example, earlier this month, Heirloom hosted a “Holiday Wellness Retreat” with Pure to the People and Pittsburgh juice. The event featured acupuncture by Hardin Acupuncture as well as local Didge Therapy.

Once open, Heirloom will host a steady flow of holistic wellness workshops, such as acupuncturists, reiki masters, yoga instructors and sound therapists. These events will connect people with practitioners of the healing arts.

Finally, if you have a holistic business in the early stages of development, Heirloom plans to be a supportive think tank and business incubator for health minded local entrepreneurs.

The Heirloom Superfood Market is currently under construction and hopes to be open in early summer 2018.

If you’re excited and want to get involved early, keep an eye on the market’s Instagram page. The company plans to run a crowdfunding campaign in early 2018. The campaign will offer benefits associated with the market once it’s open. This will help customers get invested and involved, and feel like a part of the Heirloom community.
