If there’s one thing better than a new coffee shop in town, it’s a new coffee shop that also serves wine and beer.

And that’s exactly what De Fer Coffee & Tea is bringing to Pittsburgh’s Strip District with their just-opened location. De Fer, a local small-batch coffee roaster, recently acquired the former 21st Street Coffee and Tea space, which closed in mid-November

The company told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette their intentions for the space, which will be a coffee roaster and cafe, as well as a bar serving cocktails, wine, and beer.

De Fer also plans to sell snacks, small plates, and to-go meals. Guests can expect sandwiches, cheese plates, bread, and more. Currently they are offering pastries and quiches from Pittsburgh favorite La Gourmandine Bakery.

After a quick turnaround on the space, the shop quietly opened at the end of December. Although they are now open with flexible hours, as of December 29, De Fer was yet to receive their liquor license, meaning they are unable to sell alcohol just yet.

Prior to making the push to open their first brick and mortar space, De Fer operated as a small batch coffee roaster in Pittsburgh, selling their blends to various cafes and shops.  The company producers responsibly-sourced, small-batch coffee blends from around the world. They also procure and sell rare teas.

Some popular coffee blends from De Fer include their Carmo De Minas from Brazil, Sidama from Ethiopia, and their Kamwangi from Kenya.

Additionally, in December, De Fer announced a partnership with the local charity, Angels’ Place, which provides support and opportunities for single parents and their children. $1 from every pound of coffee sold in their newly designed bag will be donated to Angels’ Place.

Keep an eye on the De Fer Instagram and Facebook pages for announcements on their liquor license and regular business hours.
