It’s the first sign that spring is (almost) around the corner: CSA signups are now open!

One of the first available for the 2018 season is 412 Food Rescue’s Ugly CSA, now in its third year. The CSA spans for 12 weeks from July through September, and includes “ugly” produce (perfectly tasty, but aesthetically undesirable) from a variety of local farms and vendors.

Pick up locations will be every Wednesday from July 12 through September 26 in neighborhoods across the city, including East Liberty, Sharpsburg, Millvale, Greenfield, South Hills, North Side and Lawrenceville. Each CSA is $240 for the season, and each weekly box includes approximately 15 lbs. of various produce items, plus specialty items, from Penn’s Corner Farm Alliance’s local farms.

For more information, and to sign up, visit 412 Food Rescue’s CSA page.

The food rescue organization has also announced that its collaboration with Threadbare Cider, 412 City Cider, is now available for purchase. The cider is made from 3,500 pounds of wild crab apples, and other foraged wild apples found throughout Pittsburgh, pressed by Godfrey Run Orchard, and fermented with Threadbare’s house yeast culture. Each bottle is $23, and available for purchase online.
