Mitchell’s Restaurant and Bar, a downtown Pittsburgh institution that has been in operation for 114 years, will end lunch service today, March 30.
Jim Mitchell, the third generation owner of Mitchell’s, told KDKA NewsRadio that after years of working 75-hour work-weeks, he’s ready to semi-retire.
While lunch service will end, the bar will remain open, and the restaurant will also continue to offer corporate catering. The final event held on the second-floor banquet will be at the end of April, and after that, renovations will begin to expand the first floor bar area.
In a Facebook post to customers, Mitchell wrote “Although you may no longer come to my restaurant for a home cooked meal, you can still have it delivered to your office or special event center. I know many will miss my place for lunch. I will miss you all as well, but… ‘It is time.'”
Mitchell also writes that after renovations, the second floor will be turned into office space.
