New Mt. Washington Restaurant Has Downtown Views and 50 Beers on Tap

It’s not something you see every day, but a new restaurant on Mount Washington pairs views of Downtown Pittsburgh with an 80’s movie reference.

This intriguing combination is on display at Coughlin’s Law Kitchen and Ale House, a new gastropub on Virginia Avenue.

Prior to opening, the building was a BP Gas Station, and the transformation into a restaurant took the better part of two and a half years. The restaurant will finally have its grand opening on Thursday, April 12 at 4:00 p.m.

The name, “Coughlin’s Law”,  is a homage to the cult-classic film Cocktail, which stars a 26-year-old Tom Cruise as bartender Brian Flanagan.

As you would expect from a restaurant referencing Cocktail, Coughlin’s Law is a great place to grab a drink. The bar has 50 beers on draft, as well as wine on tap and a thoughtful cocktail menu.

Located on Mount Washington, the restaurant features outdoor seating with views of Downtown. And, for those seated inside, there are six garage doors, offering ample fresh air. During the summer, the space will be great for hanging outside in large groups.

Coughlin’s Law styles itself a gastropub, with dishes like the Coughlin’s Law Burger – a smoked burger that arrives in a glass cloche filled with smoke – or Bacon lollipops with brown sugar.

“Our menu is spectacular, I was just blown away,” says co-owner Brian Vetere, who also co-owns the Carson City Saloon.

After the grand opening, Coughlin’s will open Monday through Friday starting at 4:00 p.m. On weekends, the restaurant offers brunch and is open Saturday and Sunday starting at 10:00 a.m.

With summer only a few weeks away (we hope!), Coughlin’s will  be a great addition to the neighborhood.

More information can be found online.

Cool location, where will there be parking? Next time in Pittsburgh, I’ll check it out.
