The Art Institute of Pittsburgh’s restaurant, Taste of Art, reinvents itself every academic quarter, when a new set of advanced-level culinary students takes over the menu and service.

They’ve just launched their Fall 2015 concept, with a menu that features everything from Southern comfort foods to sandwiches with Korean street food influences.

On the latest menu:

Appetizers:

  • Lamb Meatballs: Bleu cheese-stuffed meatballs served over wild rice with a savory pesto sauce
  • Crab cakes: Two crabcakes with a spicy crème
  • Spinach Ravioli: House-made three-cheese her-stuffed ravioli with a basil butter sauce

Soups:

  • Crab Corn Chowder: Served in a sourdough bread bowl

Entrees:

  • Asian Noodle Bowl: Thai noodles with grilled flank steak and vegetables with a rich broth
  • Baja Fish Tacos: Blackened halibut, tangy slaw, adobo crème, served on a wamred corn tortilla with a side of pico de gallo
  • Mac & Cheese: Fresh pasta with a creamy white cheese sauce and a Parmesan bread crumb baked topping

Salads:

  • Falafel: Fresh greens and vegetables with falafel rounds, topped with a lemon tahini dressing with pita points
  • Wedge: Trio of greens with avocado and pomegranate seeds, with a tangy buttermilk dressing
  • Waldorf: Pepper lettuce, julienned apples and pears, candied pecans and a maple Dijon vinaigrette

Sandwiches:

  • Char Siu Pork: Pulled pork on a house-made Kaiser roll with grilled pineapple slaw and Asian BBQ sauce
  • Cray Fish Po Boy: Cajun spiced cray fish fritter with a creamy remoulade with lettuce and tomato
  • Smoked Duck Breast: Swiss cheese and sweet red onion preserves on a house-made Ciabatta bun
  • Thai Turkey Burger: Turkey patty with spicy mayo and pickled cucumber relish on an onion Kaiser roll

Desserts:

  • Pumpkin Butterscotch Ginger Trifle: Butter rum pumpkin pastry cream layered with an infused gingerbread whipped cream
  • Pecan Pie: Homemade pecan pie, maple ice cream with bacon and candied-orange zest
  • Black Forest Pavlova: Chocolate cloud with espresso cream, macerated black cherries, walnuts, and chocolate

The Taste of Art restaurant is only open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and reservations are encouraged, thanks to their ridiculously low prices (nothing on the menu is more than $7.50). For reservations, call 412-291-6532.
