Maggie’s Farm Releasing First Flavored Rum

The early bird gets the rum.

Maggie’s Farm Rum has announced that they’re releasing their very first flavored rum, made with “100% real pineapple.”

The release is happening this morning at 11:00 a.m. at their Strip District distillery, and online to buyers in Pennsylvania.

The pineapple-infused rum has no artificial additives or sugars, and is based on the same production method as Maggie’s Farm’s “50/50” dark rum. That method takes an aged Trinidadian rum that was fermented and column-distilled with molasses, and blends it equally (“50/50,” right?) with the distillery’s own pot-distilled raw cane-based rum, and aged for up to nine months. To make this Pineapple Rum, Maggie’s Farm has taken fresh, whole pineapples, and macerated the pineapple meat in the dark rum portion for two weeks to infuse the juice and flavors.

Then, the entire mixture is blended equally with Maggie’s white rum, which was made from a distillation of pineapple meat and bark. Think that’s not enough pineapple? The still’s ‘gin’ basket is then loaded with additional pineapple barks, allowing the vapors to capture any extra natural fruit oil that may be hanging around.

In an email, the company says that the resulting rum has a “genuine pineapple flavor and subtle sweetness while remaining relatively dry compared to most flavored spirits, where back-sweetening with additional sugar is common practice.”

Want to get your hands on it? Bottles are $40 each, and can be purchased (starting at 11:00 a.m.) at the distillery or online.
