There’s a lot going on in the world of food, so Good Food Pittsburgh will give you Something To Chew On in this regular wrap-up of the best food stories of the day.

  • We try not to follow these ‘best of’ lists too closely, because there’s always so many good places that have been left out… but if you’re looking for a solid Mexican meal in Pittsburgh, this roundup is a pretty good place to start. [Thrillist]
  • Michael Pollan’s diet-advice book, ‘In Defense of Food,’ has a new life as a documentary, covering (in great detail) his simple dining advice: Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. [Grist]
  • Pittsburgh City Paper made a visit to Mambo Italia in Sewickley, and they were impressed… by the decor, the pizza, and the gnocchi, which they say is ‘extraordinary.’ [Pittsburgh City Paper]
  • Two filmmakers vowed to eat only food that was about to be discarded… for six months. How did their experiment go? NPR talks to the pair. [NPR]
  • Living a non-dairy lifestyle? Ben & Jerry’s has got you covered. The ice cream behemoths have just introduced a new line of non-dairy, vegan ice cream flavors using almond milk, set to debut early next year. [People]
  • Delta is giving its airplane food a makeover, shifting the menus on its transoceanic flights to seasonally rotating and regionally-influenced. [CNBC]
  • Take this with a grain of salt, but Vanity Fair is reporting that Kate Middleton is considering launching an organic food company with her sister Pippa. We do not hate this idea! [Vanity Fair]
  • This isn’t strictly food-related, but it’s worth a shout out. Adam Shuck, who brings us the daily Eat That, Read This newsletter and filmmaker Dave Bernabo are teaming up to create The Glassblock, a new web magazine that aims to showcase creative work by Pittsburgh writers, photographers, and artists – and it sounds like it could be pretty rad. They’re still in the fundraising phase of their venture, and have launched a Kickstarter to help them reach their goal. Check it out. [Kickstarter]
