Wigle Whiskey Opening Tasting Room & Bottle Shop in Ross Park Mall

October 25, 2018 by Madeline Quigley Leave a Comment

The Ross Park Mall will soon offer a new spot to get in the holiday spirit.

Just in time for the holiday season, Pittsburgh’s acclaimed distillery, Wigle Whiskey, is opening their fourth brick-and-mortar outpost in the Ross Park Mall.

The new space is located in the former Citizens Bank space, immediately adjacent to the mall entrance near the Cheesecake Factory and California Pizza Kitchen. The shop will open on November 19, the week of Thanksgiving.

While the brand has three locations within Pittsburgh proper, this is their first location outside of the city. Wigle currently operates via their distillery in the Strip District, Northside Barrelhouse & Whiskey Garden, and Downtown Tasting Room & Bottle Shop. They also have a sister company, Threadbare Cider & Mead, which is located on the Northside.

“We’ve definitely wanted to do something outside of the city,” says Meredith Meyer Grelli, Wigle Co-Founder and Co-Owner. “We have focused for a long time on our city locations, and so much of the Pittsburgh region calls the suburbs home.”

At the new tasting room, customers will be able to purchase bottles of Wigle’s locally-produced spirits, and try the product on site. The new space provides enough room for a full bar, which will serve samples, flights, and cocktails.

Guests will also have the chance to fill and label their own bottle Organic Rye Whiskey or Organic Bourbon straight from cask. The bank’s back vault room will safeguard barrels of rye whiskey and bourbon, which will allow customers the opportunity to fill up their own bottle of cask-strength whiskey, and make their own label (for themselves or a gift).

The “bank connection” of the new space is also apropos for much of Wigle’s education programming. The brand plans to engage guests with stories of Alexander Hamilton and Andrew Mellon’s important place in the Whiskey Rebellion & Prohibition respectively.

“It will be a really nice opportunity to extend some of the storytelling that we already do,” says Grelli.

In the summer, The Tasting Room will offer an outdoor seating area and host live music. While they will not serve food in the space, Wigle welcomes food from other providers in the mall.
