Friday Roundup: Weekend Picks

December 18, 2015 by Emily Catalano Leave a Comment

There are almost too many good things to eat and drink this weekend in Pittsburgh. Our weekend picks?

roundup-thin-man

Sometimes, you just need a good sandwich. And Thin Man Sandwich Shop’s special holiday sandwich is a good sandwich… make that a very good sandwich. It’s made with Baccala Montecado, pea shoots, olive oil, black pepper and served on a rustic Italian roll, just like your nonna would make. Plus, Thin Man is still selling take-home containers of their famous chicken liver mousse, so you can stock up before your holiday parties.

roundup-toast

We couldn’t be any more in love with the Smallman Galley, the Strip District’s new restaurant incubator that opened this week. Josephine’s Toast, from chef Jacqueline Wardle, is killing it with their simple yet inventive menu, centered around toast. Our pick? This Tart Cherry & Cranberry Upside Down Toast, a sweet treat like you’ve never had before.

roundup-provivsion

Speaking of Smallman Galley, Stephen Eldridge’s Provision PGH has a number of truly stellar dishes on the menu, like these Green Chile Chicken Tostadas. Eldridge is California-born and Arizona-made, and knows his stuff when it comes to spice.

roundup-noodlehead

We don’t know why, but we’re craving Noodlehead something fierce – and this weekend, we’re gonna get it. Steam buns and noodles are what they’re best known for (and rightfully so), but their Thai Fried Chicken is what we’re dreaming of. It’s going to be the best $6.50 we spend all weekend.

roundup-breadworks
It’s a New Year’s Eve tradition in Pittsburgh, and one that we gleefully partake in. Breadworks’ Chocolate Babka is made with their delicious Sweet Egg Bread, and stuffed with chunks of chocolate. Pro tip: Nothing makes a better French Toast on New Year’s Day.

roundup-porch

This is not your standard pie. The Porch at Schenley‘s Potato & Leek pizza, covered in a sage and Bechamel sauce, and topped with melted leeks, sliced potatoes, and fresh arugula, is a thing of beauty. Add a beer, and your Saturday lunch is looking pretty good.
