Thanks to the vision of Spanish architect Lázaro Rosa-Violán, along with mossArchitects, Fairmont Pittsburgh’s primary dining space was transformed into one of the most polished dining spaces in the city in 2017.
Fl.2, with warm natural wood and hues of brown and black, is a comfortable and contemporary space, which is divided into three distinct areas. The spectacular bar is capped with a brass canopy complete with graceful shelving for bottles and glasses; an array of mirrors at the top reflects light and energy back into the room.
The wood flooring continues into a refined transitional space, where spider-shaped chandeliers, a marble fireplace and massive picture windows set the scene for sophisticated dining. The restaurant’s primary dining area features an open kitchen and a comfortable central banquette.
The design philosophy extends to all aspects of the restaurant, from table settings to the fine details of the employee’s outfitting. An additional benefit is that management went local, working with MONMADE, a Pittsburgh craft business aggregator, to partner with regional artisans for everything from dishes to uniforms. Ceramicist Reiko Yamamoto crafted custom plate ware, Caryn Carson of Pike Leather fabricated the leather-bound bar books and designer Kelly Lane tailored the host uniforms.
