For the last few years, Lawrenceville has been a hotbed of business development – and that means that there’s always a new business opening on Butler Street. In the last few months alone, more than a dozen new businesses have opened their doors, from restaurants and bars to boutiques and hair salons.

FRIO Creamery
FRIO Creamery opened in September, serving ice cream from Penn State’s Berkey Creamery, the university’s popular on-campus creamery. You’ll find a rotating list of ice cream flavors, including favorites like Bittersweet Mint, Just Peachy and Coffee Break.

Condado Tacos Lawrenceville
Condado Tacos opened their second Pittsburgh location in October, bringing make-your-own tacos, margaritas, and brunch options to the former Tender Bar & Kitchen location. A few dishes to try? The Breakfast BLT Tacos, braise beef brisket tacos, and Thai Chili Tofu vegan taco top our list.

Lawrenceville Distilling
This small-batch distillery and bottle shop is known for their Parking Chair Vodka, and has big plans to expand their product line soon, with absinthe in production now. Also on the production? A tasting room, coming soon.

The Black Cat Market
Adorable cats that are ready to be adopted? We’re in! The Black Cat Market officially opened in September, giving guests and opportunity to play with Animal Rescue cats and kittens while enjoying a beverage. Since opening, the cafe has hosted a number of special events, including poetry readings, game nights, and art openings, and has adopted out 11 (adorable) cats.

Ruhling Woven
Ruhling Woven, a vintage women’s boutique (located in the space that formerly housed vintage lingerie shop Calligramme), sells select found and upcycled minimalist apparel. The beautifully-designed shop also features one-of-a-kind handcrafted accessories, including shoes and handbags, along with abstract mixed media works.

Make + Matter
Make + Matter is a collaborative studio and store that opened this June, offering a variety of ethically-made clothing, accessories and home items. The store, started by three textile-based designers, sell not only their own items, but also items made by local designers, as well as designers from around the country.

Hippie & French
This new shop opened earlier this month as a wellness center, with a full selection of organic, whole plant, full-spectrum CBD cannabidiol products for people and pets. You’ll find CBD oils, CBD tonics, and other CBD-infused bath and body products.

Geology Rocks! And Minerals
Geology Rocks! And Minerals is a shop that rocks… really! The shop, which opened this summer, sells crystals, rocks, fossils, geodes, and more to use for art, education and healing.

This men’s clothing shop just opened in Lawrenceville (they had their grand opening this week!), and features clothing from brands like Tellason Denim, Life After Denim, Save Khaki United, National Athletic Goods, Faherty Brand, Tanner Goods, Raleigh Denim Workshop, along with men’s fragrances, bath and body items, bags, and more.

Luxe Redux Bridal
You’ll find your dream wedding dress at Luxe Redux Bridal, a bridal shop with locations in Columbus, Cincinnati, and Indianapolis, in addition to their newly-opened store in Lawrenceville. Luxe is known for selling gowns priced below $1,500 and $1,000, as well as their “Luxe In A Box” service, which sends three wedding dresses to your door to try on at your leisure.

Small Mall
Open since July, this super-cool local arts marketplace features art and design objects from local and regional artists and makers. From cultural producer, artist, and arts consultant Casey Droege, Small Mall also hosts special events, including micro exhibits. Want to learn how to become a featured artist in the shop? This full-service salon opened in June, and services both men and women. Come here for full color, balayage, extensions, makeup, lashes, and more. Trend Pittsburgh Salon also offers select, hands-on lessons for those in the cosmetology profession.

Alchemy Dry Cut Lounge
Alchemy Dry Cut Lounge users dry-cutting techniques, which they say allows the stylist to better see the movement and layers in hair, allowing for better precision. The salon, which opened in October, specializes in balayage, ombré, and rainbow vivid colors.

House of L’Ashely
House of L’Ashley is a specialty salon that opened in July, and offers lash extensions and tinting, eyebrow microblading, spray tanning, waxing, and makeup application from licensed cosmetologists.
