Pittsburgh’s vegan food scene is set to expand this year with the opening of Good Chroma, the city’s first all vegan bakery!
If you’re a connoisseur of local vegan scene, you may have already tasted some of Good Chroma’s baked goods. The bakery has popped-up at various markets and events since 2017, including The Neighborhood Flea, The Squirrel Hill Night Market, and Pittsburgh VegFest.
The colorful business announced on Instagram their intentions to open the first all-vegan bakery in the city of Pittsburgh.
“From the beginning I’ve always wanted to open a storefront,” says owner Tyler Czuczman. “I’m really excited to get out there.”
For the space, Czuczman is envisioning a small bakery with space for customers to sit and enjoy their treats. They plan to serve coffee and an expanded menu of baked goods.
“Our focus and best selling product has been cupcakes from the beginning, so the bakery will have a big emphasis on cupcakes and cakes, but I do want to offer a good variety of things,” says Czuczman.
Customers can also expect savory items like quiches, bagels, and muffins – all vegan, of course.
There is also the potential for weekend brunch events, where Good Chroma will serve dishes such as freshly made pancakes.
“A big thing people say about our stuff is that ‘It’s not too sweet,’ so I want to keep up with that, and not offer an entire menu of sweet stuff,” continues Czuczman.
But don’t worry – there will still be plenty of sweet treats available.
“I’ve been trying to get a perfect vegan brownie recipe for so long,” laughs Czuczman. “I definitely want to have that before the store opens.”

At this point, the key ingredient missing for the business is the space. Good Chroma is still searching for the perfect spot to open the bakery.
“Ideally, I would love to find a location in the Lawrenceville/Bloomfield/East Liberty area of Pittsburgh,” the bakery states on their Kickstarter page.
To underwrite the operation, Good Chroma has financing from Pittsburgh Urban Redevelopment Authority, and is currently running campaigns on both Kickstarter and Honeycomb Credit.
Honeycomb Credit is a Pittsburgh-based company that enables small businesses to borrow expansion loans from their own loyal customers and fans. The business get funds for their project, and investors earn back the principal, plus interest.

To continue with their mission of doing good for animals, Good Chroma intends to donate 5% of their profits to local animal welfare organizations.
Although it will be a while before the shop is officially open for business, Good Chroma is excited to get back into Pittsburgh’s food scene.
“I miss baking for people,” says Czuczman “It was so nice. I can’t wait to interact with our customers and hear how much they love the stuff.”
