Picklesburgh is back – and tastier than ever.

This Friday and Saturday, Picklesburgh will be taking over the Rachel Carson Bridge downtown, with pickling demonstrations, pickled cocktails, and plenty of pickle-infused bites.

For the event’s second year, Picklesburgh is giving the crowd what they want: More pickles (and more food options). Over a dozen Pittsburgh restaurants and chefs will be serving up a variety of dishes, with lots of pickled elements.

We’ve got a sneak peek at some of menu items that will be available, and color us impressed.

Highlights include:

  • Tako: Tacos incorporating house-cured pickled ingredients, along with ceviche with marinated whitefish and pickled watermelon
  • Market Street Grocery: Dill Pickle ice cream, Ginger ice cream with pickled ginger chunks, Pickled Strawberry sorbet, Cream Cheese ice cream with capers and salmon, Lemon Jalapeno ice cream, all from Family Farms Creamery
  • Meat & Potatoes: Specialty pulled pork or smoked sausage sandwiches, plus a smorgasbord of house-cured pickled toppings
  • BRGR: Peter’s Pickled Pepper Burger, with salami, pepper jack cheese, house-pickled bell peppers, banana peppers, pickle chips and chipotle aioli, plus sides of fried pickles and cole slaw made with pickled vegetables
  • Braddock’s American Brasserie: Signature Banh Mi sandwiches, which will include a variety of homemade pickled toppings, like Vietnamese slaw, IPA Chow Chow and more
  • Fabulous Homemade Cookies: Butterscotch Pretzel Pickle cookies, Pickle Bacon Molasses cookies, Peanut Butter Pickle cookies, Traditional Sauerkraut brownies and Cornbread muffins with spicy pickled vegetables
  • I’Dill Pickles: The Piggle – a bacon-wrapped fried pickle
  • Sienna Mercato: House-made Italian hoagies with pickled peppers
  • Meadows Casino: A variety of sandwiches with unique pickled toppings, including spicy pickled mustard, pickled daikon slaw, deep-fried house pickled vegetables, and pickled green tomatoes
  • The Pickled Chef: Gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches with house-cured pickled ingredients
  • Spirit: Fresh pizza with an assortment of pickled vegetable toppings, as well as pickled mozzarella and corned beef toppings
  • Gosia’s Pierogies: A variety of pickle-fusion and traditional pierogies, including Kimchi & Potato, Pickle & Potato and Sauerkraut pierogies
  • Le’s Oriental: Egg rolls with pickles and pickled kimchi
  • LaScolas: Lemon Basil Dill Italian ice

Beer will be available throughout the festival, and cocktails from select vendors will be available beginning at 4:30 p.m. each day, including:

  • Butcher and the Rye: A variety of cocktails made with homemade shrubs, including house-made pickled cherry shrub
  • Sienna Mercato’s Mezzo: Pickled fruit sangria and a Pimm’s Cup with pickled garnish
  • Meadow’s Casino: Srirachalada: Red Beer’ded Penn Pilsner with Srircha, tomato juice, lime juice, spices and a deep-fried pickle and Soppresata swizzle stick, and Frozen Knobby Lemonade: Knob Creek Bourbon, fresh squeezed lemon juice, elderflower syrup and preserved lemon
  • Spirit: Pickle Backs, Pickled Carrot Gin & Juice, Boyd & Blair Gibson pickled onion martinis

More than three dozen vendors will be setting up shop, selling everything from small-batch pickles to arts and crafts. Vendors selling pickled products, relishes, and jams include The Pittsburgh Pickle Company, Portagallo Pickled Peppers, Randy’s Pickles, Bylers Relish House, The Pickled Chef, and Bruce Julian’s Pickled Veggies. And Heinz will be featuring samples of pickles, shrubs, and giving away their famous Heinz pickle pins.

There will also be demonstrations both days of the event, teaching home pickling techniques. We’ll be showing the world how to make our Pickled Peaches, Pickled Red Onions, Pickled Zucchini and Pickled Jalapenos on Saturday – stop by and say hello! Other demonstrations include Kimchi, Pickled Strawberry Sundae Sauce, Pickled Shrimp, and Cocktail Shrubs.

Picklesburgh runs Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16 from noon to 10:00 p.m. each day.
