New Tacos & Tequila Spot Now Open in Shadyside

There’s a new spot in town for upscale Mexican cuisine.

Tocayo, a taqueria serving tacos, burritos, and a wide range of tequila cocktails, is now open in Shadyside, in the former location of Pallantia Tapas de España.

The restaurant offers a full menu of starters (Barbacoa Taquitos, made-to-order guacamole, and chorizo queso are standouts), plus nearly a dozen taco options, including:

• CHICKEN CHORIZO
  Corn Tortilla with Grilled Chicken, Queso Oaxaca, Red Onion, Salsa Verde, Queso Fresco, and Citrus Mix.
• AL PASTOR
  Corn Tortilla with Pork Shoulder, Red Onions, Habanero Pineapple Salsa, Cilantro, and Roasted Pineapple.
• STEAK
  Flour Tortilla with Ribeye Steak, Arugula, Red Onions, Salsa Roja, Queso Fresco, and Cilantro.
• BARBACOA
  Corn Tortilla with Shredded Beef, Grilled Onions, Queso Fresco, Avocado, and Salsa Roja.
• SHRIMP
  Flour Tortilla with Crispy Shrimp, Black Beans, Mango Salsa, Fried Plantains, and Pineapple Salsa.
• BEETS
  Corn Tortilla with Roasted Beets, Chile Ancho, Kale, Mole, Sour Cream, and Queso Fresco.
• CHICKEN
  Corn Tortilla with Grilled Chicken, Cilantro Lime Salsa, Guacamole, Pico de Gallo, Kale, and Queso Fresco.
• FISH
  Flour Tortilla with Seasonal Breaded Fish, Cabbage Slaw, Cilantro Lime Salsa, Avocado, Pico de Gallo, and Scallions.
• CARNITAS
  Flour Tortilla with Shredded Pork Shoulder, Guacamole, Tomato, Onions, Pickled Jalapeños, Tortilla Crumbles, and Queso Fresco.
• OCTOPUS
  Flour Tortilla with Grilled Octopus, Mango Habanero Salsa, Red Onions, Arugula, and Toasted Chile de Arbol.
• CAULIFLOWER & PORTABELLA
  Corn Tortilla with Roasted Cauliflower, Portabella, Corn, Zucchini, Bell Peppers, Fried Plantains, Arugula, Salsa Roja, and Toasted Chile de Arbol.

Tocayo also serves burritos, salads, soup, and desserts, like flan and churros served with Mexican chocolate ice cream.

Over at the bar, you’ll find a selection of margaritas (including Totopo, a house marg with Sauza tequila, orange liqueur and housemade limonada), and more than 20 varieties of tequila and mezcal.

Tocayo is open Monday to Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Happy hour is Monday through Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., with appetizer and drink specials.
