
Do you have what it takes to be a Pierogie Racer?
The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced that they’re hiring a new batch of people to run in the pierogi races during the Pirates home games next season.
According to this job description, in addition to running the race during home games, the mascot Pierogies will also participate in additional appearances, both at PNC Park and around teh communities, and will also be responsible for Chick-fil-A Cow appearances during Pirates home games.
The “Great Pierogy Race” at Pirates games started in 1999, and are held during every Pirates home game following the end of the fifth inning. In addition to original runners Chester Cheese, Sauerkraut Sal, and Oliver Onion, other pierogi mascots include Jalapeno Hannah, Potato Pete, Bacon Burt and Pizza Penny, all sponsored by Mrs. T’s Pierogies.
Additional requirements for the position include being 18 or older, able to lift 40 lbs., able to run/spring 215 yards in 60 seconds or less while wearing a mascot suit, and have a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, and the baility to work at least 57 of the Pirates’ 81 home games next year.
