New Collaboration Launches to Support Restaurants + Food Industry Pros During Pandemic

August 15, 2020 by Emily Catalano Leave a Comment

Three organizations are joining forces in an effort to help restaurants and food businesses better comply with changing government health and safety guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association, Allegheny County Health Department and the service-industry led Safe Service PGH have entered into a new partnership to form Safe Service Allegheny, a collaborative effort that aims to develop a toolkit that will assist restaurant owners and food-and-beverage based businesses in Allegheny County with the resources needed to comply with the latest government standards.

This collaboration extends the efforts of Safe Service PGH, an organization formed by food and beverage-based business owners and event-industry professionals to provide access to resources and support during the pandemic. Safe Service PGH provided a “pledge” for members to commit to follow safety guidelines by the state and country. Now, the PRLA PA Restaurant Promise has been integrated into the Safe Service PGH Member Pledge to give greater voice to industry professionals across the state.

“It made complete sense to merge our statewide PRLA PA Restaurant Promise initiative fully with the Safe Service PGH initiative and we hope to see this format take shape throughout the state,” says John Longstreet, President and CEO of the PRLA in a release. “A majority of Allegheny County’s business owners are galvanized to do the right thing- and both large and small businesses have come together not only to commit to safety but to give greater voice to their needs and issues during this crisis.”

The Allegheny County Health Department will be providing updated guidelines and tips on the Safe Service Allegheny website, and Safe Service Allegheny County will be releasing the Member Toolkit to provide guidance on restaurant issues such as staff training materials and communicating guidelines for guests and patrons.

There is no cost to be a member of Safe Service Allegheny, and more information can be found online.
