Get bzzzzing this winter, and learn the art of beekeeping.

Burgh Bees still has a few spots available for their Winter Beekeeping 101 course, a three-day classroom-based series that offers beginning beekeepers an introduction to honey bee biology and basic approaches to beekeeping.

The course, which is held at the Penn State Extension of Allegheny County, includes an overview of honey bee castes and races, a discussion of bee biology, and an overview of the basic equipment that’s necessary to start beekeeping on your own. The goal is for students to learn how to keep bees for the first year – and maybe have their own honey to enjoy by this time next year.

The winter session classes will be held on Monday, January 19, Wednesday, January 21 and Monday, January 26 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The course is $100, and students can register (and find out more information) on Burgh Bees’ website.
