Pittsburgh’s premier cheese supplier for American-made cheese, Wheel & Wedge, is opening a permanent shop inside of EngineHouse 25 Wine in the Strip!

Wheel & Wedge, which began in the Pittsburgh Public Market in 2014, and has grown to become the city’s source for small batch, artisan cheeses. Currently, the exclusive cheeses from Wheel & Wedge are only available at the East Liberty Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings (7:00 AM – 12:00 PM), at the EngineHouse 25 tasting room on Thursday-Saturday, 5:00 PM-9:00 PM, and for catering or special events.

Fans of the cheese company will be happy to know that starting in early June, they will be able to pick up their favorite cheeses five days a week!

Alix Higgins, owner and cheesemonger of Wheel & Wedge, says the transition into a more accessible retails space was the logical next step for the business. Wheel & Wedge has been a staple at many Pittsburgh events for the past year, including their famous “Moos and Brews” pairings with different Pittsburgh breweries, like Grist House and Hitchhiker.

The space will be a retail shop by day, with Wiggins selling and educating her customers on the different cheeses she curates. At night, it will switch to a hangout, socialization space, as part of the wine tasting room of EngineHouse 25. Wheel & Wedge will be providing the cheese boards to pair with Engine House 25’s different wines.

The new Wheel & Wedge shop front will be a “one-stop cheese board shop,” where customers can get everything they need to craft the perfect cheese board in one place – meats, cheeses, crackers, jams, and, of course, wine from Engine House 25.

Wheel & Wedge specializes in local and regional cave-aged, artisan and farmstead cheeses. The shop is a source for local favorites, like Goat Rodeo Cheese, and new finds, like the Cellars at Jasper Hill Farm. Customers can expect to see an ever changing rotation of cheese in the new space.

“I will see what customers want,” says Wiggins. “I have a few basic cheeses that everyone knows and loves, but I like to switch things around. People are always asking for new cheese.  It is about finding that balance of having what people need, and new fun stuff to try.”

Wheel & Wedge in EngineHouse 25 hopes to be open on June 7th. Retail cheese and wine sales will be: Wednesday – Saturday 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Sunday 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM.  Cheeseboards and wine by the glass will be: Thursday – Saturday 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM.  Follow the progress on Wheel & Wedge’s Facebook page.
