Today marks the first day of Negroni Week, a national event that pairs drinking with donating.
More than 40 bars and restaurants in Pittsburgh are participating in Negroni Week, which will run from June 1 through June 7.
During Negroni Week, each participating spot is charged with creating their own Negroni cocktail (typically made with gin, sweet vermouth, Campari and an orange twist), and donating portion of the drink sales to a charity of their choosing.
Lots of our favorite bars and restaurants are participating, including Tako (with donations going to Animal Friends), The Commoner (Big Brothers Big Sisters) and The Livermore (Rainbow Kitchen).
Here’s just a few of our top picks:
The Grapperia: They’ll be featuring nine $9 Negronis, including the Grappa Negroni, with grappa, Campari and Cinzano Rosso and the Pale Negroni, with vodka, Campari and Cinzano Bianco. They’ll also have a $12 Negroni Week exclusive, a 90-day barrel-aged Negroni.
Hemingway’s Café: Hemingway’s featured Negroni is ‘The 3911,’ made with gin, Campari, Ginger Beer and Lemonade. $1 from each cocktail sold will go to Animal Rescue League.
Il Pizzaiolo: In support of the Autism Society, downtown’s Il Pizzaiolo will offer their take on the cocktail, made with Brugal Rum, Campari, Cinzano and Orgeat syrup.
Grit & Grace: $1 from every classic Negroni sold at Grit & Grace will go to Rainbow Kitchen Community Services.
