From homebrew events to block parties, October is going to be a tasty month in Pittsburgh!
Friday, October 6:Â Hoptoberfest Homebrew Tasting at Rivers Casino
Homebrewers can enter their beer for the tasting at this event, which will also feature food and live entertainment. Guests are invited to judge local homebrewers, and enjoy drafts from Pittsburgh favorite Penn Brewery, too. More information is available online.
Friday, October 6: Bike Tour & Block Party at GTECH
GTECH Strategies is shutting down Julius Street for a free, family-friendly Block Party from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. There will be live music, a cornhole street tournament, and plenty of food trucks, including Iron City Eats, Yinzburgh BBQ, Tango Food Truck, and Billu’s Indian Grill on Wheels. There will also be cocktails from Wigle Whiskey, and brews from East End Brewing Company. Find out more on their event page.
Saturday, October 7: Downtown Foodies: Sustainable Tasting Tour
The Sustainable Pittsburgh Restaurant program is hosting a downtown food tour of restaurants that are using sustainability to improve communities, reduce environmental impacts, and contribute to the region’s economic prosperity. Guests will enjoy bits and drinks from The Commoner, Corner Mercantile and Shab’s Grill. Tickets are $20 and are part of the city’s Doors Open event.Â
Sunday, October 8: Smoketoberfest at Roundabout Brewery
Roundabout Brewery’s annual Smoketoberfest is back! They’ll be shutting down 49th Street for the event, which will feature smoked cuisine from local vendors (liek Asado Food Truck, Blowfish BBQ, Smoke, Driftwood Oven and Leona’s Ice Cream), plus specialty Roundabout beers, including (of course) a few smoked varieties. Tickets are $25 and include an event glass, one beer, food samples, and live music. Purchase tickets online.
Sunday, October 8: Cabbage Ferment Party
Ferment Pittsburgh is hosting an afternoon of autumn fermenting – and it’s free to attend. They’ll be providing heaps of local, organic cabbage for participants to prepare as sauerkraut, kim chi and pickles, and a variety of different-sized containers will be sold for attendees to fill, and there will be workshops throughout the day. Thursday, October 12: Aurochs Oktoberfest
Enjoy a gluten-free Oktoberfest with Aurochs! They’ll have Pumpkin Brown Ale on tap, and will be serving up beer brats, sauerkraut, potato pancakes and hot apples and cinnamon. See more on the event page.
Friday, October 13: Ales on the Allegheny
Kittanning is getting its very first beer festival on Friday, October 13. Breweries, food trucks and live music will be at this 21-and-over event. Tickets are $20, and can be purchased online.
Saturday, October 14: The Chocolate Bar at the Benedum Center
The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is hosting a carnival of chocolate at the Benedum Center, featuring chocolate-infused creations from Pittsburgh chocolatiers and restaurants, including A519 Chocolate, Mon Aimee Chocolat, The Commoner, Sarris Chocolate, Sinful Sweets and Butcher and the Rye. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online.
Saturday, October 14: Squirrel Hill Oktoberfest
Uncover Squirrel Hill is hosting the very first Squirrel Hill Oktoberfest, a self-guided beer tasting experience in the Squirrel Hill business district from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Guests will be able to visit participating businesses for a beer tasting, including Hidden Harbor and Independent Brewing Company. Tickets are $25 and more information is online.
Saturday, October 14: Variety Hour: Multiple Choice, Locally Sourced at the August Wilson Center
Enjoy a fun night out with WQED’s Rick Sebak as he hosts a Variety Hour, featuring some of the best acts that Pittsburgh has to offer, showing off their skills at creativity in 10 minutes or less. The event will also feature a food truck roundup, with free entry. Check out the event page for more.
Sunday, October 15: Stanton Hops Release Party
The Stanton Heights Neighborhood Association and Hops on Lots Pittsburgh is releasing “Stanton Hops” a beer created by Roundabout Brewery using hops grown in greenspace along Stanton Avenue – and you’re invited to try it. Friday, October 20: Threadbare Cider’s Grand Opening Party
We’re super excited for Threadbare Cider (from the Wigle Whiskey folks) to officially open their North Side cider house. They’re hosting a grand opening party on Friday, October 20, and tickets are going quickly.
Saturday, October 21: Ukrainian Food Festival
Yum! Get your fill of classic Ukrainian food at like pyrhoy, stuffed cabbage, halsushky, Ukrainian Borscht and kobasa at the Ukrainian Food Festival at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Church on the South Side. Guests will be able to eat in, or take out. See more information on the event page.
Saturday, October 21: Garfield Community Farm Fall Festival
Admission to this year’s Community Farm Fall Festival includes homemade pie, grilled food, hard cider, local beer and more. There will also be hands-on workshops and educational talks about crafting, and growing your own food. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for seniors and children. Saturday, October 21: Boo & Brew BashÂ
Dress up in costume for the 7th annual Boo & Brew Bash, which benefits Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The Halloween-themed Bar Crawl includes sample brews and cocktails from participating bars downtown, like How at the Moon, Seven, and Stuff’d. The after-party is taking place at Social House starting at 10:00 p.m. Tickets start at $35 and can be purchased on the event page.
Saturday, October 21: Penn’s Corner End of Season CSA Celebration at East End Brewing Company
Join Penn’s Corner Farm Alliance for their end-of-season bash. The event is free for all, but CSA members will receive a free East End Beer. There will also be Penn’s Corner produce and products for sale, and food from Tango Food Truck. See more online.
Saturday, October 21: Brewing Up A Cure
One of Pittsburgh’s longest-running beer festivals is back with over 75 different homebrewed beers, as well as beers from local microbreweries, all for the sampling. Tickets start at $50 and proceeds benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. For more information, visit the event page.
Sunday, October 22: Farm-to-Table Dinner at Goat Rodeo Farm & Dairy
Hartwood Restaurant & Whispers Pub chef Jonathan Holzer is crafting a four-course, family-style menu featuring farm-raised pork, Roundabout Brewery beer, Arsenal Cider House cider and Goat Rodeo Cheese for this dinner on the farm. Tickets are $89 and include a personal guided tour of the farm and creamery, plus a meet-and-greet with ‘the girls,’ Goat Rodeo’s very own goats. Tickets are available online.
Saturday, October 28: Revel + Roost Halloween Bash

Sunday, October 29: Oms, Brews & Aroos at Mindful Brewing Company
