This May, Pittsburgh is gearing up for the summer with dozens of events and festivals, celebrating everything from local beer to Pulp Fiction! Don’t miss out on any of these awesome food events:
Thursday, May 4: Pittsburgh Wine Festival
For the 15th year in a row, the is bringing a collection of wines from around the world to Heinz Field. There will be food, drinks, tons of fellow wine enthusiasts, and over 530 expertly selected wines. Tickets can be purchased online.
Friday, May 5: ZooBrew Spring Hops
All party animals are welcome for a massive beer tasting at the Pittsburgh Zoo on Friday, May 5. The tasting will be three and a half hours long, and you must be 21+ to attend. Tickets for this event can be purchased online.
Friday, May 5: Cinco De Mayo at Cantina
Round Corner Cantina in Lawrenceville is partying all day on Cinco de Mayo this year. The doors open at 11:00 a.m., and the first 25 people who enter will receive a free margarita or Dos Equis! The kitchen will be open late, and there will be a DJ spinning Salsa, Latin, Mexican, Dancehall, Reggaeton, Cumbia, and more International Sounds. More information can be found online.
Friday, May 5: Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse Opening
Roll into summer with the 2017 Wigle Whiskey Barrelhouse opening and barrel roll. Begin with a barrel roll competition from the distillery in the strip, to the Barrelhouse on the North Side. After, enjoy a malt-themed party with milkshakes, and the releases of Wigle’s new Maltmalt Whiskey. There will also be Baby Loves Tacos, and robots (yes, robots). Tickets can be purchased online.
Saturday, May 6: Pittsburgh Vegan Festival
Enjoy a collection of Pittsburgh’s best vegan foods at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the North Hills (Franklin Park). There will be tons of live entertainment, and several vegan vendors, including: Barb’s Bars, Gluuteny (gluten-free cupcakes and other sweets), the Serene Bean, Sree’s Foods (Indian), Relish (doughnuts), Pastoli’s Pizza and Paisans, Hello Hummus, Love Yourself Tea , Sweet Alchemy Bakeshop, LLC, and more! Saturday, May 6: Food Truck-a-Palooza
Food Truck-a-Palooza is back and even bigger than before. Over 30 food trucks will be the Waterfront, in addtion to live music, and friendly competition – one truck will be crowned the “People’s Choice Winner.” Tickets can be purchased online.
Saturday, May 6: The Annual KCCP Korean Food Bazaar
The Korean Central Church of Pittsburgh’s annual Korean Food Bazaar will be held on Saturday, May 6. Enjoy a large spread of Korean food in a fun environment. More information can be found online.
Saturday, May 13: The 2017 Beers of the Burgh Festival
Celebrate local beers at the 4th Annual Beers of the Burgh Festival at the Carrie Furnace! Over 40 of the area’s best breweries will be in attendance, serving ales, ciders and more, all unique to the Three Rivers regional area. Tickets can be purchased online.
Saturday, May 13: Crafts and Drafts and East End Brewing Company
Crafts and Drafts is back…. and East End will be releasing a new batch of Illustration Ale, a Belgian Dark Strong Ale that they haven’t released in a few years. They’ve asked six local artists to contribute designs for the label, and will be showing them off, along with their own work. There will also be an artist’s market, lots of food, live music, and free samples of beer. The admission is free, and the event is family-friendly. See more online.
Saturday, May 13: Pittsburgh Burger Week Kickoff Party
Kick off the Pittsburgh City Paper’s Burger Week with a fun party at Social at Bakery Square! They’ll have live music, drink specials, and a burger-eating contest. Tickets are $10, and can be purchased online.
Sunday, May 14: Mother’s Day Afternoon High Tea at Arnold’s Tea
Treat your mother to with an afternoon of High Tea at Arnold’s Tea in the North Side. Arnold’s Tea is a specialty tea shop serving dozens of tea blends. Tickets can be purchased online.
Sunday, May 14: The Neighborhood Flea
The Neighborhood Flea is back for another season. This Mother’s Day, join the flea market fun in the Strip District. There will be plenty of food trucks on hand, along with food-centric vendors, offering everything from cookies and cakes to breads and dips. More information can be found online.
Wednesday, May 17: Legume’s 10th Birthday Party
Legume, one of Pittsburgh’s original farm-to-table restaurants, is celebrating its 10th birthday… and you’re invited to the party. Join them from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for all-you-can-eat whole goat tacos (vegetarian options will also be available), snacks, a special collaboration brew from Costar Brewing, and a classic sundae bar. They will also be premiering“15 Short Films about Legume,” a feature film about the history of the restaurant at nearby Pittsburgh Filmmakers. Tickets are $38 per person, and can be purchased online.
Wednesday, May 17: “Choose Your Own Beerventure” Infusion Night at Bierport
Pay $3 to infusion the draft of your choice from over 7 different infusion options (via French press). Infusion items will vary from month to month, as will our rotating draft list. More informaiton can be found online.
Thursday, May 18- May 28: Northside Sandwich Week
For the 6th year in a row, the North Side is hosting the “Tastiest Event in Town.” Sample signature sandwiches at participating restaurants all week long, or sample all of the sandwiches on May 18th at Pittsburgh’s Grand Hall at the Priory. There will also be a Le Tour de Sandwich bike ride, which will guide riders to last years winners, and the new locations this year. Over 9 restaurants are participating. Friday, May 19: Cocktails & Cuisine: For Foodies Who Care
Pittsburgh’s top chefs and spirit purveyors are gathering for a night of eating, drinking and dancing, to support Crisis Center North, who provides services for those dealing with domestic violence and abuse. Tickets to the event can be purchased online.
Saturday May 20: Pulp & Pulp Fiction: Brunch Time!
For the aptly named “Pulp & Pulp Fiction” brunch, Row House is hosting a brunch-time screening of “Pulp Fiction,” featuring handcrafted Beermosas from Bierport, donuts from Onion Maiden. More information can be found online.
Saturday May 20: Puppy Hour
Drink craft beer at Grist House and and help combat child abuse and neglect in Allegheny County with the KidsVoice Young Professionals. Anyone who donates a minimum of $5 will receive a raffle ticket and a wristband so they can take advantage of Happy Hour prices. Gaucho will be the food truck for the day. Saturday, May 20: Crawl for a Cause Benefiting St. Baldrick’s
Crawl for a Cause is an all-day bar crawl through Pittsburgh’s Lawrenceville neighborhood. Proceeds will benefit St. Baldrick’s Foundation to assist in their mission to end children’s cancer. Sunday, May 21: The North Hills Food Truck Festival
Two dozen (yep… 24!) food trucks will be taking over the grounds of St. Teresa of Avila Church in the North Hills for this epic food truck festival. Sunday, May 21: Beer Belly Yoga
Enjoy the meditative powers of yoga and a beer at East End Brewing. Tickets are $25 and include a 45 minute yoga class, a free 13oz EEBC glass (filled with the beer of your choice), and a token, good for a free Yoga Class at I am Yoga in Squirrel Hill ($17 value). Sunday, May 21: Second Annual Endless Summer Luau
Hotel Monaco is kicking off summer with their second annual Endless Summer Luau. The event will feature traditional Luau foods and island cocktails. Pre-luau activities include a coconut husking demonstration, photo op, ‘tattooing’, and our Hawaiian musicians serenading you with Hawaiian tunes. The event will end with fire knife dance. Monday, May 22: The Pig and the Pearl
Muddy Waters Oyster Bar is hosting the Pig and the Pearl, a 5-course beer dinner with Brooklyn Brewery. The event will have Oysters, Low Country Boil, Pig Roast and much more. Tickets can be purchased online.
Monday, May 22: Aubergine Brew Dinner
Enjoy a unique event at the Smallman Galley – Aubergine’s Chef Rafael Vencio is hosting the infamous Brew Gentlemen for a roving tasting experience. Friday, May 26: Greater Pittsburgh Food Truck Festival
Another food truck festival? You bet! On May 26, 27 and 28, the Meadows Casino racetrack will be transformed into a culinary roadmap for the Greater Pittsburgh Food Truck Festival. This event is free. More information can be found online.
