The Good Food Cookie Swap is happening on Saturday, November 14 at the Pittsburgh Public Market, with dozens of local bakers coming together to swap their homemade treats. Spots are filling up, but there’s still some space available.
Thinking about joining us? Here’s why you can’t miss it:
1. The Cookies. Let’s just get that out of the way first. Home bakers from all over Pittsburgh will be making their favorite cookies, and swapping them for the chance to try new treats. Just a few of the cookies that our swappers will be bringing: Baklava, Whipped Shortbread, Oatmeal Cranberry Bars, Fudge, and Cherry Bon Bons…. And dozens of others to satisfy every imaginable sweet tooth.
2. The Cookie Contest. In addition to the swap, we thought that it would be fun for everyone to bring a few extra cookies to share with a panel of judges… and our judges are awesome. Gretchen McKay, food writer extraordinaire from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Tom Totin, host of the podcast Cookspeak, Adam Duttine from Enrico Biscotti, Tom Medvitz from Prantl’s Bakery and Emily Catalano of Good Food Pittsburgh (that’s me!) will be lending their taste buds to choose the very best cookies in a number of categories.
3. The Prizes. And what to those winners get? We’ll have lots of prizes that celebrate home baking, plus (huge news!), a very special grand prize courtesy of Prantl’s. The grand prize will have their cookie sold at Prantl’s bakeshop for a limited time!
4. Holiday Baking – Done. Wouldn’t it be great to get all of your holiday baking done before Thanksgiving? After the swap, you’ll have dozens of cookies to take home with you, ready to go in the freezer until December. And just like that, your holiday to-do list got a little shorter.
5. It’s Free. Yeah, we know that you’ll need to spend time and money baking your cookies. But you’ll get the same amount of cookies in return that you give, plus we’ll food, drinks and good company – all for the low, low cost of nothing.
Bring your family, invite a friend – just be sure to register beforehand.
