Two weeks into the New Year, and those healthy-eating resolutions you made on January 1 might not hold the same luster as they did in 2015. Want to break bad? These six new desserts are currently on the menu at these Pittsburgh restaurants and bakeries, and are so worth it.
Chocolate Blackberry Cake at Butterwood Bake Consortium
The dessert menu at Lawrenceville’s Butterwood Bake Consortium is constantly changing, with new additions replacing old favorites every day of the week. Right now, we’re loving anything chocolate, which means that we fell hard for their Chocolate Blackberry Cake, a super-dense chocolate layer cake with blackberry preserves and rich chocolate buttercream frosting. Pecan Pie at Spoon
Spoon introduces new dessert menu items each season, and this winter’s all-star is their new individual pecan pie. It’s spiked with candied bacon and a rich chocolate sauce, and served with a sweet tea sorbet. And yes, while we’re pretty much over the bacon-in-desserts trend (bacon doughnuts, bacon pudding, bacon chocolate cake… it’s too much), we welcome it with open arms when it’s done truly well. Buttermilk Doughnuts with Earl Grey Icing at Coca Café
Doughnuts are the best. And the hot, fresh, just-out-of-the-fryer doughnuts at Lawrenceville’s Coca Café? Those are the best of the best. Every few weeks or so, Coca Café will make a change to the menu, and experiment with a new doughnut flavor/icing combination. Right now, they’re serving hot buttermilk doughnuts with warm Earl Grey tea icing, a divine combination that’s sweet, but not cloyingly so. Coca Café (3811 Butler Street)

Koko Dream at Gaby et Jules
It’s really hard to go to Gaby et Jules and not get a macaron. So go ahead! But save room for their one of their newest desserts, the Koko Dream. It’s a petit cup of chocolate mousse, served on a fudge brownie, with a crunchy almond center, and topped with a coconut foam and shredded coconut. It’s light, but rich… and vegan, too. Gaby et Jules (5873 Forbes Avenue)

Gobs at Fortuitea Café
Washington’s Fortuitea Café is a bit of a hike, but a trip to the all-vegan café (which has great lunch and dinner options, and hundreds of loose teas for sale), is worth it for the dessert alone – and by that, we mean their house-made Gobs. The flavor combinations change daily (think chocolate and peanut butter, pumpkin and butter cream, and classic vanilla), but they’re almost always on the menu – and we always order two. Fortuitea Café (1445 Washington Road, Washington, PA)

Oreo Milkshake with Marshmallows at the Milkshake Factory
It doesn’t matter how cold or snowy it is outside – we are always always in the mood for ice cream. And the Milkshake Factory’s milkshakes (especially their Oreo and marshmallow concoction), are the perfect rich, creamy, and decadent drinks to shake us out of our winter blues. The Milkshake Factory (1705 East Carson Street)
