6 Frozen Desserts You Must Try Right Now

August 14, 2022 by Emily Catalano Leave a Comment

It’s the absolute hottest part of summer right now, and that means that we’re craving every single frozen dessert we can have. From house-made sorbets to gelato sundaes, here’s where to find the absolute best frozen desserts in town.

Gelato Ice Cream Sandwiches at DiAnoia’s Eatery
For a limited time only, DiAnoia’s Eatery is offering gelato ice cream sandwiches from executive pastry chef Rachel Walton. She’s created fun flavors like snickerdoodle Nutella cookies with hazelnut gelato, and Funfetti cookies paired with cherry gelato. Dianoia’s Eatery (2549 Penn Avenue)

Page Pops from Page’s
We’re pretty obsessed with these ice-cream pops from Page’s. Not only are they available in tons of flavors (like the Cold Pop, with Cookies ‘n Cream ice cream and chocolate dip, the Sam Pop, with peanut butter ice cream and chocolate drizzle, and the Mag Pop, with Fruity Pebble ice cream and cherry drizzle), but they can also be purchased in bulk, so you can take them home and enjoy one whenever you want to avoid those long Page’s lines. Page’s (4112 East Carson Street)

Seasonal Sorbet at The Vandal
The Vandal in Lawrenceville always has an ever-changing selection of seasonal flavors of house-made sorbet on their dessert menu. Right now, they’re serving strawberry balsamic sorbet, Gallia melon-elderflower sorbet, and blueberry ice cream, but options change frequently. The Vandal (4306 Butler Street)

Vegan Ice Cream at Farmer x Baker
With a rotating list of flavors like Lemon Safflower, Orange Olive Oil, and Carrot Cake, the soft serve ice cream at Farmer x Baker is always unique, and always made with local, seasonal ingredients (and, it’s also always vegan). Get it at their Aspinwall location, while they’re still open for the season. Farmer x Baker (285 River Avenue, Aspinwall)

Gelato Sundae at Alta Via
There are typically two or three rotating flavors of house-churned gelato at Alta Via every day, like pistachio, chocolate, and vanilla, along with vegan sorbetto. You can order it with toppings like chocolate shavings or hazelnuts, or as part of their gelato sundaes – right now, the sundae features olive oil cake, milk crumbles and marmellata, though they also feature special sundaes, using ingredients like Prosecco-braised blueberries. Alta Via (46 Fox Chapel Road)

Nightingale Ice Cream Sandwiches at Moonlit Burgers
If you haven’t tried Nightingale Ice Cream Sandwiches yet (over-sized, decadent ice cream sandwiches in flavors like Chocolate Blackout, Strawberry Shortcake, Salted Caramel, and ‘The Classic,’ made with a chocolate brownie cookie and vanilla bean ice cream), you’re in luck. Moonlit Burgers in Dormont have started stocking the desserts as the perfect sweet treat to end your meal. Get them for $5 each. Moonlit Burgers (1426 Potomac Avenue)
