Forget about fries on salads – it’s time that Pittsburgh gets some recognition for having a huge collection over the top, drool-worthy milkshakes across the city. While it was tough to select just nine shakes from a city filled with hundreds of handspun creations, we are confident that no one will be disappointed when trying some of these shakes.
Time to get sippin’!
The Lucky Charms Milkshake at Bill’s Bar and Burger
Between their Reeses explosion, and torched s’mores shakes, the milkshake competition at Bill’s Bar and Burger is pretty tough. However, the Lucky Charms marshmallow shake has to be the clear winner. With a marshmallow rim and fruity center, this shake may just rock your world after one sip. Can we say it? Yes, it is magically delicious.
Also, if you’re celebrating anything special, Bill’s is always ready to dress your milkshake with some sparklers!

Girl Scout Cookies Shake at Burgatory
It is hard to choose just one milkshake from Burgatory, especially since they come out with an new, exclusive flavor each week. However, keep an eye on Burgatory’s Instagram to see when the elusive “Girl Scout Cookie” milkshake pops up on their menu. Burgatory makes two different Girl Scout Shakes, one with Thin Mint, and one with Samoas cookies.
Popping up every Girl Scout Season (as well as every once in awhile, just to tempt us), this shake is 100% worth making the trip into Burgatory. Combing Girl Scout Cookies and ice cream, it simply doesn’t get much better than this.
If you don’t catch the Girl Scout shake, no worries. Shakes like the “Caramel Pretzel,” “Salted Nutella Crunch,” the “Cookie Monster,” and the “Campfire S’mores” (our other favorite) are full-time staples on the Burgatory menu.

PA Dairymen Shakes
What makes a good milkshake? The milk! That is the component the PA Dairymen think they know a thing or two about. These “legenDAIRY” shakes are available every year at the Pennsylvania Farm Show, where they have been served for over 60 years.
Are these velvet shakes worth the drive to Harrisburg, where the farm expo is held? Anyone who has ever tried one would give it a resounding, YES! The PA Dairymen stick with the classics, and their shakes are available in strawberry, chocolate, and vanilla flavors.
It is generally worthwhile to check out the Pennsylvania Farm Show, which is the largest indoor agricultural exhibition in North America. According to the Westmoreland County Food Bank, the PA Dairymen sell more than 150,000 milkshakes during the week of the farm show. The proceeds from these shakes benefit educational programs and youth scholarships. The PA Dairymen are also involved in several other charitable endeavors which can be viewed on their website. The next Pennsylvania Farm Show will be held January 6 – 13, 2018.
“Death By Chocolate” at BRGR
Calling all chocolate lovers! This shake is for you. No chocolate is left behind when it comes to this shake at BRGR. Chocolate drizzle, chocolate milkshake, chocolate crumbles… need we say more? As with all milkshakes at Burgatory, you can give this one an extra kick and spike it for a few extra dollars.

“Fried Ice Cream” at the Milkshake Factory
Behold – the fried ice cream shake at the Milkshake Factory. With two locations (Downtown and the South Side), the Milkshake Factory has been one of Pittsburgh’s favorite places to get a decadent shake since their first shop opened in in 1914. For their famous “Fried Ice Cream” creation, the formula is simple – make it crunchy and sweet, just like the classic dessert.
The Milkshake Factory’s Fried Ice Cream shake is made with their rich vanilla ice cream, clover honey, crushed cornflakes, a touch of cinnamon, and topped with a cherry. Feeling a little more adventurous? You might want to try their Chocolate-Covered Bacon shake, which is spiked with maple syrup and fresh-cooked crispy bacon.

The Lavish Toppings at Fudge Farm
You never knew you could upgrade a milkshake like this. The Fudge Farm, with locations in the Waterfront and the South Side, truly takes all of their shakes to the next level with an insane topping bar.
The Fudge Farm’s already out-of-this-world milkshake with treats like: chocolate covered pretzels, waffles, ice cream cones, nutter butters, chocolate bars, chocolate covered marshmallows, pound cake, and even a full banana. Plus their South Side location has swings (yes, like on a playground) inside of the store.

“Shakepresso” at Gepetto Cafe
If you need an excuse to start your day with a milkshake, Gepetto Cafe has it figured out. Their signature “Shakepresso” combines all that is good in beverages, and mixes an espresso and a milkshake together (yes, it is pretty brilliant). If coffee isn’t your jam, no worries. Gepetto has other handspun milkshakes like Banana Cream Pie, Nutella, and Strawberry Cheesecake.

Rich and Creamy Shakes from Sarris Candies
Rich and creamy shakes? Count us in. Sarris takes a “go big, or go home” mentality when it comes to milkshakes, and promises to serve up the creamiest shakes in town. Guests can pick their favorite ice cream flavor to be mixed with fresh whole milk. And, they’ll even throw in an extra scoop of ice cream if you want it extra thick. Be warned – if you try these shakes, there is a chance nothing else will ever compare.
Our favorite flavor? While you can’t go wrong with Butter Pecan or Mint Chocolate Chip, their Cookies n’ Cream is hard to beat.
