Abjuration Brewing – the heavily anticipated nano brewery located in the Parkway Theater in McKees Rocks – is finally opening their doors to the public.
The brewery held several soft openings in November. Starting Friday, December 1st, Abjuration plans to be open every weekend in December.
The December hours will be as follows:
Friday: 5:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
Saturday: 1:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
The project has been heavily anticipated since it was announced over a year ago. Abjuration owner Dave Hallam told us in July about his renovation plans for the building.
“It’s actually two different businesses within the building,” says Hallam. “One side is the Abjuration, and the other side is the Parkway Theater.”
Aaron Stubna, owner of the Parkway Theater, has also been hard at work renovating the theater portion of the building. In addition to the brewery, the building will also feature an enclosed, soundproof movie theater, and a lounge space called the “Film Lounge.” The lounge will have a projection tv and bar, serving wine and mixed drinks.
Though separate, the businesses will fluidly share the space.
Abjuration Brewing has had a “scientific” theme since the beginning. The logo looks like two beaker glasses, and Hallam, and his co-owner Tom Glover, emphasize the actual brewing portion of the craft beer process. All of their recipes are open sourced on the internet, and each beer is named with a “version number,” to show where the beer is in its evolutionary process.
“We really liked drinking different beers, and I have noticed that a lot of people want to try something new,” says Hallam. “Basically, we will try to do new beers all the time. You will see ones that you have seen before, but we won’t have any core beers. If people keep asking about a certain drink, we will brew it again.”
The draft list for the opening weekend includes:
Session Dry-Hopped American Blonde (sdab) v1.6
Single Hop Bitter (shb) v1.1
American Pale Ale (apa) v1.8
Norwegian Farmhouse Ale (nfa) v1.1
Almond Pecan Brown (apb) v1.0
Rye Brown Porter (rbp) v1.1
Vanilla Oak Belgian Ale (vob) v1.0
Follow Abjuration on Facebook for more information on their regular hours after the December weekend openings. The Parkway Theater can also be followed on Facebook for up to date information on their business.
The Parkway Theater is located on Broadway Avenue in McKees Rocks, just around the block from Mancini’s Bakery.
“Really, I’m just most excited for people to try our beers,” says Hallam.
