There’s always room for more pizza in Pittsburgh, and this delicious news is arriving just in time for the cold winter months ahead.
Alida’s Woodfired Cucina is a new Italian restaurant located on Penn Avenue in lower Lawrenceville, next to the Roberto Clemente Museum.
The restaurant, which around two years in the making, will serve woodfired pizzas, classic Italian dishes, as well as having an extensive wine and beer list.
The business is a family affair, pulled together by Mark Diulus, his son Albert Diulus, and their business partner, Eugene DePasquale. The team is currently putting the final touches on the space, and aims to open to the public next week.
“This is something my dad always wanted to do,” says Albert. “He always wanted to open a restaurant with his son.”
Being Italian, it made sense to them that their restaurant would serve classic Italian cuisine. With a wood fired oven and spacious bar, the restaurant aims to be a neighborhood hangout.
The menu will include everything from pasta to steak, but the star of the show will be the artisanal pizza’s fresh from the restaurant’s wood fired oven.
“The pizza is going to be our main attraction,” says Albert.
Albert, who is assisting with the beer program, says that the restaurant will have 16 beers on tap, including many local craft brews.
The name – Alida’s Woodfired Cucina – is also in the family.
“Its my grandparents names. My dad’s parents were named Albert and Ida, so it’s their names together,” says Albert.
Alida’s will be open for lunch and dinner during the week, with abbreviated hours on Sunday. Guests will be able to dine in, or takeout.
