Alta Via, the much-loved modern Italian restaurant, has announced plans to open a new location downtown.
When the Market Square location opens, it will be the second location for the big Burrito restaurant, which features a menu of pasta, seasonal vegetables, and dishes made using the restaurant’s wood hearth.
“It’s really been exciting to see a long time dream of ours come to fruition. We had a lot of fun with the first location and look forward to bringing our second Alta Via to downtown Pittsburgh,” says Bill Fuller, president of big Burrito Restaurant Group, in a release.
The downtown menu will feature the same Alta Via dishes as the original Fox Chapel location, including handmade pastas, roast chicken, steaks, and fresh fish and seafood, along with two flavors of soft serve gelato available every day.
The new space will seat more than 140 people, and will feature a private dining room for up to 75, as well as additional outdoor seating when the weather is warm. The bar menu will have classic cocktails, Italian and American wines, and draft and bottled beers, with an emphasis on producers from western Pennsylvania.

big Burrito is also preparing to introduce Alta Via Pizzeria in Bakery Square, which is opening imminently. This week, the Alta Via Pizzeria team will be hosting a pizza pop-up Wednesday, February 23 through Friday, February 25 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and on Saturday, February 26 from noon to 9:00 p.m. Visit their Instagram page for more details.
