If you turn on your television this Friday night, there’s a chance you might recognize some of the restaurants being featured on the Food Network.
Bakn in Carnegie is being highlighted as one of three Pittsburgh restaurants on an episode of the Food Network’s Ginormous Food.
Bakn, located on Main Street in Carnegie, is known for their bacon-centric menu, featuring dishes like the ‘Bakn Bakn Bakn,’ an omelet with three types of bacon, and the ‘Bakn-stuffed ‘Cakes,’ which are buttermilk pancakes that are stuffed with Applewood-smoked bacon.
Another popular dish at Bakn are the ‘Bakn‘Cake Tacos.’ These marvels are both pancakes and tacos. For the dish, bacon-stuffed pancakes work as the shell for cheddar, eggs, (more) bacon, arugula, and maple syrup.
And these famous Bakn‘Cake Tacos were the inspiration for the ‘Bakn Quake,’ which is the dish that will be featured on Ginormous Food, as the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.
The Bakn Quake is an 18-inch buttermilk pancake, mixed with a pound of crumbled Applewood-smoked bacon. This bacon pancake will also be a taco (of epic proportions), filled with another pound of bacon, a pound of peppered bacon strip, a dozen eggs, and a pound of cheddar cheese. The taco will be topped with arugula and bourbon maple syrup.
In honor of the episode, Bakn is hosting a watch party from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the restaurant, offering food and drinks specials, and encouraging everyone to join together to watch the show
The episode will also feature the Downtown location of Emporio: A Meatball Joint, and Primanti Brothers.
The Post-Gazette reported that Emporio will feature “the Six Pack,” a sandwich comprised of an entire loaf of ciabatta, stuffed with half a dozen super-sized meatballs. They also reported that Primanti’s created the ginormous “Triple Pitts-burger” – a jumbo version of the classic Pitts-burger sandwich – for the episode.
