Upper Lawrenceville’s Caffé d’Amore is turning to their community of customers and fans for support after a burglary at the cafe on Sunday, May 13.

In a social media post, Caffé d’Amore owner Sarah Walsh wrote that the cafe was burglarized on Sunday night after they had closed for the day. In the post, she wrote “A first-time customer spent several hours at the shop from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., casing it, we now realize. Before he left at close of business, he made sure to secure a way for him to get back in.”

The cafe lost about $1,500 in stolen cash.

After learning that their insurance doesn’t cover stolen cash, Walsh set up an Indiegogo campaign, aimed to help recover their stolen funds – and that’s where you come in.

The Caffé d’Amore Recovery Fund campaign has set a $3,000 goal, which will replace the stolen money, and go to purchasing a security and camera system for the cafe. They’re also offering some great perks, including a laser-cut wooden pin from local artist James Gyre for a $20 donation, a “fancy” pour over for a $30 donation, two hours of your choice of music at the cafe for a $50 donation, and an espresso bar party for up to 40 for a $1,000 donation.

If you’d like to donate, you can find the campaign here. Or, stop into the cafe and slip an extra dollar or two into their tip jar – every bit helps.
