Wigle Whiskey and Threadbare Cider are announcing a collaboration with the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, celebrating Pennsylvania’s most beloved prognosticator.
Two limited-edition batches of whiskey and cider have been created to mark the 135th anniversary of Groundhog’s Day in Punxsutawney, and customers who purchase a bottle will be invited to a virtual meet ‘n greet with “world famous Groundhog Phil,” along with members of the Groundhog Club’s Inner Circle.
Threadbare Cider has produced Phil’s Burrow Rum Raisin Cider, a cider aged in Wigle Rum casks and steeped with raisins and whole cinnamon.
Wigle Whiskey’s offering is Phil’s Shadow Maple Barrel Finished Whiskey, made by aging Pennsylvania Straight Rye Whiskey in Paul Family Farm Maple barrels.
Bottles of cider are $18 each, and bottles of whiskey are $38 each, with a portion of each bottle sale going to help the Groundhog Club fund the care of Phil.
The bottles, each with a specially-designed label by local artist David Pini, are currently available for pre-order, and will be ready for pickup at Threadbare Cider House, Wigle Whiskey Distillery, and their bottle shop in Ross Park Mall on Saturday, January 23. The products will also be available for shipping in Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.
On Saturday, January 23, customers who purchased either bottle will be sent a link to a virtual meeting with the groundhog at 1:00 p.m., which also includes a guided Phil’s Burrow cider and Phil’s Shadow whiskey tasting.
“The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club is excited and honored to again partner with a legendary piece of Pennsylvania’s history,” says Katie Donald, the Director of the Groundhog Club. “We look forward to perpetuating the Legend of Punxsutawney Phil to whiskey and cider enthusiasts from all over the world.”
