Find out what the big dill is at Picklesburgh 2018!
Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership has announced the dates for this year’s pickle-centric festival: July 20, July 21 and July 22, 2018.
That’s right, Picklesburgh is expanding to three days this year (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), and they’ll all be filled with the same pickle-licious goodness from restaurants and vendors across Pittsburgh.
Once again, the event will take place on the Roberto Clemente Bridge downtown, which will be shut off to traffic. And, the giant, 35-foot Heinz pickle balloon (which is custom-built by a team that also creates balloons for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade) will be flying high across the bridge, ready for all of your Instagram needs.
The event will include pickle and pickle-inspired dishes from a number of Pittsburgh restaurants, prepared foods for sale, and artisan cocktails that feature pickled ingredients. You’ll also find local chefs and food personalities sharing canning and pickling demonstrations, author talks, kid’s activities, live music and more.
Also new at Picklesburgh 2018 is a brand new “marketplace” area on Fort Duquesne Boulevard, with even more pickle programming, kid’s activities, a petting zoo, and a farmer’s market on Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22.
No word yet on any of the special dishes that will be available this year, but popular favorites in 2017 included Dill Pickle Italian Ice, peanut butter pickle cookies, potato & pickle pierogies, grilled pickle on a stick, pickle eggrolls and Pickled lemonade.
Now in its fourth year, the popular downtown Pittsburgh festival is always a summer highlight festival, with over 75,000 people attending the festival each year.
Vendor applications for Picklesburgh 2018 are being accepted until May 4 for this year’s event, and interested parties can apply online.
Here’s what you missed last year!

What is the best hotel to stay at?

The Ace Hotel in East Liberty/Shadyside. A neat old YMCA building that was refurbished with very helpful and friendly staff. Hip coffee bar and restaurant. Great location. Reasonable rates.
