Two new organizations have launched since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis to help bring frontline workers meals from local restaurants.
Feeding the Frontline PGH is a grassroots campaign dedicated to feeding healthcare workers while supporting local restaurants. Feeding the Frontline started in Boston, with the idea that ordering large amounts of food from restaurants (with funds donated by the public), and giving it to healthcare workers would benefit both the restaurants, and frontline staff.
Restaurants on the organization’s list include Banh Mi and Ti, La Gourmandine, Friendship Perk and Brew and Mineo’s Pizza, and donated meals have been sent to UPMC Presbyterian Emergency Department, UPMC Presbyterian MICU and UPMC St. Margaret Lawrenceville Family Health Center.
The Pittsburgh branch is accepting money through its GoFundMe page, and through Venmo @feedingthefrontlinepgh.
Another national organization, Off Their Plate, has also launched a Pittsburgh chapter. Also founded in Boston, Off Their Plate works with local restaurant partners (including The Vandal and Square Cafe in Pittsburgh) to provide nutritious meals to frontline health care workers.
Donations to Off Their Plate can be made online.
