It’s been more than five years since East End Brewing announced the YOU ARE HERE Neighborhood Beer Project, with a goal of brewing a different beer for each of Pittsburgh’s 90 distinct neighborhoods – and now, the project has come to a close.
The Latimer brewery is hosting a closing celebration today at Arcade Comedy Theater to celebrate the release of its final YOU ARE HERE Neighborhood brew, Central Business District (also known as Downtown), a 6.5% Golden Imperial Pilsner. East End will also be celebrating the brewery’s own 20th anniversary of brewing beer in Pittsburgh.
“Years ago we were having lots of deep conversations about what it means to be a brewery in
Pittsburgh, and how we can better connect to the city we call home. And we started thinking
about all the different parts of the city we asked ourselves, “Is there a way we can do
something to reach every single corner of Pittsburgh, leaving no neighborhood behind or area
unrepresented? As the project got underway it started to evolve; we realized we could release
these beers in the neighborhood the beers are named for. We can actually bring the beer to the
neighborhoods and meet people where they are,” says East End Brewing owner Scott Smith.
Since the project was first launched in May 2019, the brewery has hosted dozens of tastings across the city, participated in neighborhood events to commemorate the beers, and held special beer releases.
“It’s been one of the most rewarding experiences in our 20 years at this,” says Smith.
The sold-out event will feature a trivia game focusing on Pittsburgh, neighborhoods, and beer hosted by Drew Cranisky of Drew’s Clues Trivia, plus special appearances by Pittsburgh legend Rick Seback.
YOU ARE HERE: Central Business District will be available at East End Brewery.
