We were so sad to learn earlier this year that Roundabout Brewery owners Steve and Dyana Sloan had plans to stop operations at their lovely little pop-up beer garden (moving to New Zealand makes operating a Pennsylvania brewery a little tricky), but there’s good news for those of us who love to drink outdoors: Another Pittsburgh brewery is taking over, and the beer garden will be back for another summer.
East End Brewing Company is taking over the reins at the pop-up garden that’s set along the banks of the Ohio River, and it will be in operation every weekend (Thursday through Sunday), while the weather permits.
Opening weekend hours will be Friday, May 31 from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., Saturday, June 1 from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m., and Sunday, June 2 from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m.
A steady rotation of food trucks will be on hand (like La Palapa, Dos Reyes, and Animal House), and if there’s not a truck scheduled, everyone is encouraged to bring their own bites. There will be between seven and nine East End brews and ciders on tap every evening (plus some of Roundabout’s popular Ginga Wheat, while it’s still available), and East End will also be bringing their non-alcoholic Barmy sodas and seltzers.
The beer garden is located on the North Side portion of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail at 1836 Oxline Street (the corner of Oxline and North Franklin). It’s a true beer garden in that there’s no indoor seating, so bring a jacket, and some bug spray. Parking is available at the North Franklin Street trail public parking area.
