East End Food Co-op Shares Their Backyard Chicken Tips (Plus Other Local Food Classes)

The East End Food Co-op is sponsoring a number of events in the next month, open to the public and completely free.

Wednesday, July 29th at 6:30 p.m.

Backyard Chicken Basics: Craving fresh eggs every day? This class covers everything you need to know about keeping urban chickens, including chicken breeds, coop design and feeding.

Thursday, August 6th at 7:00 p.m.

Cookbook Club: Join members of the Cookbook Club as they test and share new recipes. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share, plus a list of ingredients.

Thursday, August 13th at 7:00 p.m.

Tips & Tricks for School Lunches: A workshop designed to help busy parents pack healthy, waste-free lunches, just in time for the upcoming school year. They’ll be offering tips for creating family lunch menus, and sampling kid-friendly foods.

Wednesday, August 26th at 7:00 p.m.

Benefits of an Alkaline Diet: Mary Beth Steisslinger, East End Food Co-op’s Herb Clerk, will be sharing the secrets of alkalinizing foods to improve energy and immunity.

The Backyard Chicken Basics class is taking place at the Carnegie Library of Homewood (7107 Hamilton Avenue), and the other classes will be held at the store in the Café Seating area.
