A collaboration of five small businesses in Pittsburgh’s East End are coming together to create a CSA-style subscription box that features all of their locally-made products.
East End Brewing, Prohibition Pastries, Commonplace Coffee, Kelly’s Bar & Lounge and Barmy Soda Co. have officially launched “Survival Kits,” a six-week subscription service that features everything from hand pies to hoppy ales.
“We were inspired by the model of weekly farm box subscriptions for CSA’s,” says Eliza Bowman of Prohibition Pastries. “But instead of produce, Survival Kits will be filled with baked goods, craft beer, fresh roasted coffee beans, soda pop and more.”
Orders are now open for the subscription boxes, which each contain at least one item from each of the five participating businesses. The selection from each producer will vary from week to week, based on seasonality and demand.
Depending on the popularity of the first six-week run, the small business collaboration is hoping to follow up with other subscription blocks.
The East End Subscription Boxes are priced at $75/week, and offered as a six-week block for $450.
Pickup is scheduled for every Wednesday starting September 16 at East End Brewing Company from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
