There are almost too many good things to eat and drink this weekend in Pittsburgh. Our weekend picks?
Sienna Mercato has just introduced their new meatball of the month – and it’s mouthwatering. Their ‘Pigs In A Ball’ meatball is made with beef, with a bit of sausage, steamed cabbage, tomatoes and white rice. They’re serving it up with sweet and sour tomato sauce over house-made haluski or mashed potatoes. My Polish grandmother would be so proud!
We go crazy for shrimp, beer and bacon anything, so this weekend special at Spoonwood Brewing has our name written all over it. Their Dead Good Bacon-Wrapped BBQ Shrimp combines pretty much all of our favorite things – and it comes paired with a Dead Goon Imperial Stout.
If you’re lucky enough to see this in time, Studecakers will be serving up these awesome cupcakes on Friday, September 4 from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. at A&G Auto Parts in Ford City (346 Main Street). Choose from Strawberry Pretzel Salad, Lady Lock, Ho Ho, Billionaire, PB Cup, Twix, Almond Joy, Red Velvet, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and their Irish Car Bomb cupcake flavors. Or, you know, all of them.
It’s not easy to find a good Muffelatta in Pittsburgh, but we think that Braddock’s American Brasserie has one of the best. Made with olive bread, Tasso ham, salami, soperasata, proscuitto, provolone, and remoulade, it’s more than a sandwich – it’s a meal.
Cheers to this long weekend! Here’s what we’re drinking: the new Rat Pack Appeal cocktail at Grit & Grace, with Scarlet Ibis rum, Drambuie, and the perfectly-portioned twist of lemon.
Finally, we may not really be ready for Fall, but Soergel Orchards is helping to make the transition a little smoother, because they just announced that they have the first batch of Honeycrisp apples of the season available! To the market we go!
