Why GetGo Smoothies Are My New Spring Obsession

April 20, 2018 by Emily Catalano Leave a Comment

I have a new spring obsession: GetGo smoothies. Now, I’ve been filling up my gas tank at GetGo for years (hello, Advantage points!), but I only recently started venturing into the shop to pick up a drink or a snack. And I’ve found that I’ve been missing something seriously great.

A few months ago, I ran into a GetGo to grab a soda, but saw a sign for their smoothies, and ordered one of those instead. I was totally skeptical at first – how good could it be? (And more importantly, how good for me could it be?). But I was shocked. This thing was honestly, truly, it-can’t-really-be-from-a-convenience-store so good.

It was so good, in fact, that I started picking one up every time I stopped for gas. And then, I found myself stopping even when I didn’t need to get gas. Basically, smoothies from GetGo have become my latest breakfast, lunch, or anytime-at-all snack obsession.

Obviously, I love things that taste good, but if I’m going to be drinking these smoothies at such an alarming rate, I wanted to make sure that they weren’t filled with preservatives, sugars, or anything else that I shouldn’t be drinking. I did some research, and (again), I was pretty shocked – my favorite smoothies are actually good for me, too.

Not only are they made with 100% real fruit (real! fruit!), but they have no added sugar, no preservatives, and no dairy, either.

I’m a big fan of all of GetGo’s smoothie flavors (Superberry is a go-to pick), but they just introduced a new smoothie in partnership with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and I’m all in on this one. ThePirate Parrot Homerun Smoothie is made with pineapple, orange, banana, passionfruit and guava, and it’s a tropical delight, and has quickly become my favorite order. (And when I get to show off my Pirates fandom while drinking something great? Win, win, WIN!).

Adding to my love of all things GetGo is their new mobile app, which means that waiting in line has become a thing of the past. You can find it on the new Giant Eagle App, and it allows you to use your phone to order and pay for your smoothie, or any of the awesome subs, salads, or sandwiches that they have on their menu. Simply order on the app, and pop into the shop to pick it up – it’s insanely easy, and a real time-saver. So order before you start pumping your gas and cleaning your windshield, and it’ll be ready by the time you’re finished!

Want to try it for yourself? Download the iPhone app HERE or Droid app HERE. And let us know what you think of the smoothies! Share your thoughts on social media with the hashtags #goodfoodpgh and #realgoodsmoothie so we can see what you’re ordering!
