From latkes to brisket, a number of Pittsburgh restaurants are offering Hanukkah specials and takeout dishes to make the holiday a little brighter this year.
Smallman Street Deli: Smallman Street Deli in the Strip District is offering online Hanukkah specials, available for pickup. Half-dozen potato latkes are $9.95 and a dozen are $18.95. They also have house-made corned beef (sliced lean for $16.95/lb, and extra lean for $17.95/lb.), and quarts of Matzoh Ball Soup for $6.95. Call 412-434-6600 to order. (2840 Smallman Street)
Bitter Ends Garden & Luncheonette: On Friday, December 11, Bitter Ends Garden & Luncheonette is offering a “2nd Night of Hanukkah” dinner available for pre-order and pickup. On the menu you’ll find latkes ($12), and you can add a side salad ($3), or Coca-Cola pulled pork ($8). They’ll also have whole wheat cranberry jelly doughnuts, tossed in powdered sugar, and hot chocolate, made with Mon Aimee cocoa. Order online.
Square Cafe: On the catering menu this year at Square Cafe, you’ll find Noodle Kugel, latkes and brisket. Braised Brisket is $32 (serves four) or $64 (serves eight), Noodle Kugel is $14 (serves four), and latkes are $18 per dozen. They also have Challah loaves for $12 each. Order online. (134 S. Haskel’s Delicatessen: New to the Pittsburgh food scene, Haskel’s Delicatessen is offering all kinds of Jewish deli favorites out of their roving food truck. The menu includes Pastrami sandwiches, potato knishes, Matzah Ball soup, Stuffed Cabbage Fried Rice, and Chocolate Babka. Look for them at Commonplace Coffee in Squirrel Hill on Friday, December 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., 412 Brewery on Saturday, December 12 from noon to 7:00 p.m., and at Bakery Square on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Farmer x Baker: On Friday, December 11, Farmer x Baker in Aspinwall will have Latkes with Apple Cranberry Jam or Herb Sour Cream, “Fragels,” – deep-fried cinnamon raisin bagels, jelly doughnuts (in custard and dark chocolate, cranberry cream, lemon lavender and Concord grape) and organic bagels (in olive & rosemary, cheddar, plain, everything and herb & salt). They’ll also have bagel sandwiches, with brisket, wild salmon, or vegan lox. Call 412-721-2113 to order.
Wigle Whiskey: On Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week, Wigle Whiskey is offering a Braised Brisket Dinner for Two, featuring braised brisket, potato kugel, and fried Brussels sprouts – all paired with a flask of Rye Old Fashioned, their ready-to-drink cocktail. Dinners are $64 and can be purchased online. (2401 Smallman Street) UPDATE: Orders are now sold out, but keep an eye on Wigle’s Instagram to see if they release any more dinners!
