Be honest – is there anything better than the taste of a fresh, in-season tomato? We don’t think so. That’s why we’re so happy to report that Churchview Farm is teaming up with Slow Food Pittsburgh for a special farm tasting that celebrates all things tomato.
On Tuesday, September 22, they’re teaming up with Slow Food Pittsburgh, Wigle Whiskey and Hitchhiker Brewing for a Tomato Happy Hour on the farm.
Above & Beyond Catering‘s Monique Ruvolo will be serving up an eight-course appetizer tasting, using many of Churchview Farm’s 114 varieties of farm-grown heirloom tomatoes.
Wigle Whiskey will be creating two custom, tomato-centric cotkails, and Hitchhiker Brewing will be on hand to serve up their Trial By Fire Farmhouse Saison (and they’re bringing a special, soon-to-be-announced cask brew, too).
The farm will be open for tours, so guests can visit with Churchview’s goats, chickens and ducks while eating and drinking the night away.
Tickets are $55, and only $45 for Slow Food Pittsburgh members. Each ticket includes all food, two cocktails, and Hitchhiker beers.
On the menu:
- Spicy tomato broth with roasted wild mushrooms
- Baked summer squash with tomato, arugula, and feta cheese
- Caprese-stuffed pasta with tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil, eggplant and tomato sauce
- Stuffed cabbage with tomato, auburn rice, farm vegetable medley and tomato mustard cream
- Tomato canapé, herbed egg salad, truffle, and nasturtium flower
- Roasted pepper, homemade ricotta, roasted tomato and garlic chive pesto
- Chilled beet, haricot vert, goat cheese, and heirloom tomato with caramelized onion dressing
- Honey & limoncello soaked tomato, melon, and mascarpone with balsamic raspberry reduction
