Beer lovers rejoice! Starting spring or early summer of 2017, it will be possible to get fresh Hitchhiker Brewing beer north of the Allegheny River.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, which broke the news, the Mt. Lebanon brewery is currently in the process of purchasing and renovating the historic Fort Pitt Brewery on Canal St. in Sharpburg.
This is the second location for Hitchhiker Brewing Co., which opened its original location on Castle Shannon Boulevard in Mt. Lebanon in May of 2014. The brewery is known for its flavorful IPAs, porters, and wheat beers.
The Fort Pitt brewery building is over 100-years old, and during its heydey in the early 20th century, was one of the largest producers of beer in the country.
The Hitchhiker team plans on having large social space, and an area to age beers.
This is the second brewery to start serving in Sharpsburg in recent months, as the popular Dancing Gnome Brewery opened in the fall of 2016.
