If you want to go local with your Thanksgiving centerpiece this year, you only have until tomorrow to place your turkey orders with the East End Food Co-op.
The Co-op is offering fresh turkeys from two Pennsylvania farms, Koch’s Turkey Farm in Tamaqua, and Murray’s Farm in Lancaster County. They’ll also have frozen turkeys from Mary’s Farm, in Central Valley, California.
All of the turkeys that East End sells meet their meat-buying guidelines, which means that they’re organic or naturally-raised, certified humane, and don’t contain any antibiotics.
Koch’s turkeys, which are free-range and feed on locally-grown corn and roasted soybeans, are available for $5.99 per pound. Murray’s turkeys are antibiotic-free, and minimally-processed, and available for $3.99 per pound. Mary’s Farm turkeys are free range, and antibiotic-free. Mary’s organic turkeys are available for $4.99 a pound, and natural free-range turkeys are available for $2.99 a pound.
The East End Co-op is also hosting a holiday meal planning event next week, offering advice on cooking a large meal for guests, as well as tips for avoiding gluten, dairy and sugar in your cooking. The class will be on Monday, Novemver 17 at 7:00 p.m. at the Co-op’s Café.
You can place your turkey order by November 16 by calling the Co-op at 412-242-3598.
