Since July, Abigail and Andrew Stump have been teasing Pittsburgh with photos of pastries, cookies, and a stunning new bakery.

The husband and wife duo announced a few months ago that were in the process of opening Madeleine Bakery & Bistro in the Wilkinsburg/Regent Square area. Madeleine Bakery is located on Trenton Avenue, just a block from the popular coffee shop Biddle’s Escape.

Throughout their opening process, Madeleine Bakery tantalized Pittsburgh with pictures of their cookies and their shop’s stunning interior. The bakery – which was aiming for a holiday time opening – just announced that their grand opening will be Saturday, December 16.

When we spoke with Andrew in August, he told us that instead of trying to keep up with the trends, Madeleine hopes to keep things classic. Their goals for the space is to be a resource for the neighborhood. Customers can expect bakery staples like sourdough bread, croissants, chocolate chip cookies, and of course, their namesake Madeleine cookies.

Since he moved to Pittsburgh in 2010, Andrew has worked in kitchens around the city, including the popular Five Points Artisan Bakeshop in Squirrel Hill.  Andrew will bringing some of the techniques he learned at Five Points to the space, as well as other skills he has gained through years of cooking.

“I don’t want it to be trendy,” says Andrew. “I want to do classic bakery items really well.”

I have been walking my dog everyday past your bakery, hoping to see an Open sign at your door. I’m so happy that the end is in sight and we can expect good and tasty things beginning on the sixteenth!

Checked out Madeline’s for the first time today. Charming place with wonderful breads and lucious looking baked goods. Looking forward to trying soups and sandwiches on my next trip.
