Maggie’s Farm Rum is introducing a new policy to benefit local animal shelters.
Starting in February, Allegheny Distilling, the makers of Maggie’s Farm, will begin donating one dollar per bottle sold of their core rums (White, Spiced and Dark) to a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter.
Tim Russell, the founder and head distiller at Allegheny Distilling, says that the new policy stems from a recent change in the tax code that will significantly lower the actual tax that the distillery has to pay on production. With those savings, Russell says, the distillery made the decision to give back to the community, and the dollar-per-bottle donation idea was born.
Russell says that the actual charity the money will be donated to will depend on where the bottle was sold (Nashville, Washington, DC., Baltimore, New York City, Philadelphia or Pittsburgh), in order to benefit those individual communities.
Keep an eye on the company’s social media pages for updates on when the new policy is officially in effect.
