After teasing us on Butler Street in Lawrenceville for many months, Merchant Oyster Co., the new New England-style chowder house from Chef Dennis Marron (who also just opened or, The Whale), is planning to open its doors to the public on Tuesday, October 17.
According to a press release, Merchant will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Previously, Marron mentioned to us that wants to recreate the type of casual, coastal experience that he enjoyed while growing up on the Jersey Shore. That means fresh seafood, pitchers of beer, and open air dining.
“Basically, it’s going to be a Northeast-style oyster bar, with three or four different varieties of chowder, raw oysters, lobster rolls and crab cakes,” Marron says. He’ll also be including a few of his own takes on New Jersey favorites. “Food that evokes the feeling of being at the beach.”
Guests can expect seaside eats like oysters, mussels, clams, chowders, lobster rolls, and seasonal favorites like soft-shell crab. Marron is also offering unique dishes, like the New Jersey favorite, a pork roll + egg + cheese sandwich.
The restaurant’s bar is stocked and ready to serve with over 20 beers on tap, and a large wine and cocktail list.
