If you are a fan of fungi, it might be time to join the Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club, and learn to take advantage of the diverse collection of fungi that grows in our region.
The 2017 monthly meetings will begin on April 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Beechwood Farms Audubon Society in Fox Chapel.
The Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club promotes the enjoyment, study, and exchange of information about wild mushrooms, and everyone who is interested in mushrooms is welcome to join. Membership is $15 for an individual, $20 for a family membership, and $10 for a full-time student. Activities of the club include regular meetings, projects centered on mushrooms, walks and forays.
On the April 18 meeting, Britt Bunyard, the editor of FUNGI Magazine will be hosting on lecture on Diptera Strangelove, or (as they say) “how the fly learned to stop worrying about amatoxins and love the death cap.”
The website for the Western PA Mushroom Club is a wealth of up-to-date information about mushrooms, including local mushroom types, areas for seeing mushrooms, and mushroom recipes.
It is possible to sign up for the club online, by mail, or at the meetings. More information on the club can be found online.
The club also regularly hosts mushroom walks, and keeps events updated on their Facebook page.
